Whats up with the door latch ***emblies for Model A's?
Have called 8 different suppliers trying to find door latch ***embly for the
drivers door for my 31 closed cab pick up. They give me all the same answer,
none till after the 1st of he year ,if then !!. Anyone know whats up ??
Am looking for a good 1 if anyone knows where to locate.

I just ordered/received 2 in the last couple weeks, from Macs. Maybe the supply chain from the Chinese Republic is broken. I've got my old ones if you want them. I think the 31 coupe and pickup take the same latch, but you would need too check for sure.

Snyder's says that it's the same on closed cars and truck. Their latches are made in the US so if they're out of stock, it's not because of the Chinese Republic at least.

Try Mike's A-ffordable. I got some from them for my '29 rpu not long ago. I think they were made in Taiwan, but the fit and quality were good, and the price OK.

Try Bert's Model A in Denver. They have new and used ones. And they ship.

A lot of business' don't order or order the bare minimum of inventory in December due to Inventory, less to count. This is the first December in the 5 years I've worked at this Case plant that we haven't run out of steel before we get to Christmas break.

Yeah I went thru this over the summer, guess it had something to do with the springs that are in the latches for that side, it was a Manufacturer issue,, or thats what i was told

Yeah i was told it was a manufacturing issue and would be after the 1st of the year if even then before any were made. So who know. But once again the hamb members come to the rescue !!!
Thanks to boutlaw i got a good used set coming and i will just rebuild them and use them. This board is a great bunch of guys and gals !!!!! Thanks to all !!!

  11. Why not use it as an excuse to convert to bear claws and have doors that won't fly open if the body gets tweaked a bit?

Guess i am just being lazy n dont want to cut on the doors and cab to install them. Already "painted" n was just gonna go the easy route and bolt in new ones.

If adjusted right and with the new parts , and a hot rod frame the body wont tweek as much as it would if it wasnt boxed,(the frame)
My experiance has been they shouldnt give you any problems . the installation of the more expensive route isnt necessary

I boxed the frame so i dont think / hope it will twist. Just a mild sbc motor so nothing radical as am planning on using it for my daily driver

I'm a die-hard and think the best latch is the reconditioned originals. The best replacement stuff i have ever found comes from 'Brattons' in MD, they might be a well-kept restorers' shop secret i don't know but i rarely hear about them or see any of thier adversti*****ts - it is model 'a' stuff only. You can get replacement latches or the rebuild kits from them, a little old lady will answer the phone and she'll fix you right up.

  18. Gotta love Smith and Jones! The fact that they're 10 minutes from the house is even better!
