There is a 60 bird for sale in our local paper with a 460 wedged under the hood. i was thinking about taking a look at her later on in the next week or so if you dont find out before hand let me know. I see just how they got her wedged in there..

I've never put a 460 in one but I've worked under their hoods a lot. There's quite a bit of room where the 390 used to be. You shouldn't have to cut anything. You'll probably have to move your ****** crossmember a little. The only part that might be sticky is exhaust but that is more of a guess than a recommmendation.

  4. It was my understanding that the FE motors (352's, 390s, 428's etc) were actually wider than the 385 series (429, 460). So I would guess that a 460 would fit and wouldn't require those ****py flowing manifolds the FE's had for clearance.

I agree. I think the side clearance is good but depending on engine placement one might have to do some kind of abrupt turn downs on the manifold to pipe connections since I believe the Limas are longer engines. So I was thinking that headers might be a good way to go but now that I think of it, didn't some of the Limas (especially 429s) come stock with some 'semi-y' shaped manifolds that pointed down AND back?

  6. A fellow at the All Ford weekend in Carlisle 2004 had a "bullet bird" with a 460 in it. He didn't chop the inners, but I don't know what he did for the exhaust. Stu

Had a 460 in my 62 Galaxie. Had to fab motor mounts and trans crossmember. That was it. I ran stock exhaust manifolds.
