I have a Winters V/8 quick change in my 32 5W and need to know what others are running for lube. I'm thinking of using something heavy to help quiet it down some.
I've run a Halibrand V/8 that wasn't nearly as loud.
    Thanks

  2. What type of gears do you have in it?

  3. man u can run wheel bearing greese in it and it still will be loud. but you gota love it they are sooo cool.

Just installed mine and I'm running Winters oil. They also recommend one other oil but I can't remember what it was. For the money I have in that thing I'm running exactly what the tell me to run. Can't say how noisy it is yet. I'm looking forward to finding out.

If noise was an issue though I would say the best way to quieten it would be helical cut gears.

I had the 4:10 set and just flipped m over. We'll see if that makes a diff. The other fluid they recomend is Mobil 1. But they don't say what weight. Dose Mobil 1 come in a gear lube?

Straight cut gears. I don't want to ruin all the fun!

Used to run "amsoil" lube in the race car rear, kept it quiet on the return road. Not even sure if they are still in business.

  12. Mine was loud and I called Winters and the sold me a set of heli cut gears, you could still hear the sing but you could at least carry on a conversation in the car.

I think the Winters oil is 80w90 so I'd imagine the Mobil oil they rcommend would be similar. Oh yeah, I found out how noisy mine is tonight. No complaints here.

It was suggested by Halibrand to run Valvoline 80W90 DuraBlend synthetic in my V8 quickchange, and that's what I've used. Mine is only noisy between 40-60 mph, then quiets down.....or it could be the Brockman's taking over :D

  15. If you don"t have the Helical cut gears........do not think oil type will really matter.

Run a Halibrand Champ in my roadster with Helical cut gears............Runs quite......but I have loud exhaust.

Try H Cut gears vs straight cut. HUGE noise difference.

I run Mobil 1 synthetic/hypoid 75/140. Thats what winters recommended and yes the straight gears are LOUD. The helical cut gears are a lot less noisy.
