1950 chevy truck carb upgrades

    have a 1950 3100 with a 235 with stock intake. got the rochester single barrel carb, any ideas what are good upgrades that are mostly direct bolt on? thanks

    Carter YF, they come in two different bolt pattern dimensions. The narrow one is for the 216 engines and the wide ones are for the 235 engines. They can still be bought new or rebuilt if you can get the counter person interested enough to look for them.

    Carter produced a number of different YF replacements for the 235 Chevrolet. These are excellent units.

    Stromberg and Zenith also produced aftermarket replacements for the Chevrolet. These are even better units, but tend to be somewhat more pricey than the Carter.

    Interestingly, the aftermarket units for the passenger vehicles (automatic chokes) are more easily obtainable and cost less than the manual choke versions designed for use with the trucks.
