So I get a call from my best friend. He was out with another friend of his who had business with some guy so he had to make a stop at the guys house. While there he sees this old shack and the owner said he has a 32 Ford hot rod in the shack that has been there since the 70’s and he would like to get rid of it.
My Friend being a car guy but not familiar with hot rods, says he might be interested in it and would like to see it (ya think). Well with no lights in the garage (and I use that term lightly) and the car has **** all over it he could not see enough of the car to tell exactly what he was looking at. He tells me it had an A grill shell (strike one). Then he tells me it did not look like my 32 roadster (strike two) but he thought it was cool and wanted me to go look at it to see if it was something he could redo or if it was a pile of **** I might be interested in (strike three) but hey I have two more outs to go.
Buy now I am foaming at the mouth! So Christmas is over, I can stop eating .I have killed all the mice trying to invade my house ( and one squirrel) I am finished shopping (except for parts for my 32 rebuild)and I can use a break from the 32.
So off we go today! Five minutes into the trip my friend stops for coffee and of course a donut.(Like we need donuts after eating three pounds of homemade cookies a day for the last week and a half.) Anyway we are now on our way and I am trying to tell my best friend why he does not need this “32” and I should buy it.
We pull up to the house and one look at the garage and I have goose bumps.
We open the door and I see enough of the rear pan to know it’s a 32 Ford. (OMG) isn’t that what they say today? But wait! Something is wrong! As we pull the **** (and I mean that literally) off the car I realize this was a five window coupe that had the top hacked off. It was on an A frame with an early Pontiac motor and late Ford front end. What no 32 frame, no heavy front axle, no F100 steering, no quick change rear (OK, I know, that is wishing for too much and Christmas is over) Anyway this was a mess. The bottom of the body was cut off below the doors with the sills. Pieces of torched steel were welded everywhere.
So my friend says it was way too much work for him ( It was too much work for George Barris) So if I wanted it I could have it.
It did have a couple of cool things like the gas pedal, dash, headlights, and radiator cap.
I think its best use would be to put it on top of a building for decoration. From a distance it looks pretty cool. Like about a quarter mile.
Well we then decided to visit a friend on the way back. That was fun just to see how he was solving his storage problems. Hey its lunch time!
Enjoy the photos and I will get back to you all with the rest of the story when it happens.

Way cool story. Amazing that they're still out there. It's proof that you have to follow every wild goose. Hopefully you can get it for a song and make the most out of it.

dammit ct1032ford you are a pickey sort of fellow.

I suppose the next thing you will do is take that pretty roadster in your avitar and make a high-boy out of it.

    thanks for the story, Mark.

I'd love to have that car, putting it on a building as decoration would be an incredible waste. What did he want for it?

  17. I couldn't get it loaded up fast enough !!! Buy it if the price is realistic !!!

Mark; here is the 32 cabriolet that I saw in magazine coverage from the first Nats in Peoria. Back then all I saw was a tiny B/W 3/4 rear view of this car...and I have that pic burned in my brain since.

I even recall most of what the caption said under the pic: "two 18 yr olds drove out from NJ in this 32 cabriolet, and the 'block stayed cracked''.

I found this pic on Carnut.com a couple years ago; it must be the same car from that magazine article for sure...

Not to confuse anyone here, but this car is not the one just found..I am just reminissin'

A 32 Ford anything is worth something to somebody. Take it home, drop it on a deuce frame, make a roller out of it and clean it up and see the offers come in. Some money to be made there if you don't want the project for yourself !!!
