I took this picture in Bryan Texas today. At first glance, from 30 feet away, I thought it was a very good looking car. I like the rear-fenders-only style. It keeps the back of the car massive. It has a good tire/wheel combination. Looking closer reveals it is butcher work, really hacked up. This is the kind of work that made restorers hate hotrodders. This one has a 1971 license plate. This quality of work was pretty common in the 50s and 60s. Every single part is unaceptable by our standards. Look at that windshield post! It looks like a 35 to 48 frame, narrowed at the front. 58 Chevy taillites, hacked up dash, it really was a rumble seat car. The Model A restorers say that there are more rumble seat cars today than Henry made!
The same guy has a 34 coupe, pretty good condition except someone welded 1" square tubing and flat metal for a floor. That could be cut out and the rest of the car would make a good start.
For a small shop he had some cool cars. He also had this. I dont even know what to call this. Kit car? Also he has a 57 BelAir hardtop, a 47 Chevy coupe, 56 Ford p/u, 49 Ford p/u, 46 Chevy p/u, and a 58/9 Apache
Bruce thats where my T coupe & remains of T touring came from. The 34 is a customers car, could be made into a nice car, kinda crude work on that and the A. I haven't stopped there in a while, he is always hauling stuff in. Did you buy the A? Pictures of the coupe please!
Ok pictures tomorrow if possible. Ya know, when 30roadster told me it was pulled out of a creek and was rusty and rotted, I knew I had to have it Calling it a coupe is kinda stretching the truth. Its just parts for my 26 coupe. This picture will have to do til I get it unloaded tomorrow. You can see right where the waterline was in the creek!
BELLM that A kind of reminds me of the one in your shed, I thought it was yours at first. The 34 deserves another shot at making smiley faces. Bruce, how's the T coming along? Pictures?
No progress, none at all. I spend all my time making the Metropolitan Planning Commission happy. However, I did get new babbitt and a new bore in my Model A coupe. The engine is back in the car and only needs all the small things hooked up. May be driving Monday. Did you move?
Heres the pics, Eddie. Somebody made a roadster out of a coupe! I aso got pretty good quarters and rear window with it. It has a bunch of good parts even though it looks pretty horrible. Also got some Fisher body cowls, one with tags.
I saw a real bugatti in Troy, MI two weeks ago. I bought some cheap parts off of ebay (for the mercedes death rod) ....went to pick them up and got a chance to see some really cool, really expensive stuff (the Bugatti, 3 Duesenburgs and about 15 others) at the restoration shop. It was cool to see a Bugatti mostly disassembled. ......most of the parts refinished and the assembly process started.
Was there a turtledeck with those cowls? I looked at all this a while back, there was a turtledeck that went with the cowls, nice looking, I forgot about that coupe being there. He is always coming up with neat junk. Good score. You were actually in greater downtown Smentana when you bought that stuff!
How the hell did you get all that into your truck? Next time you come through you have to give me a shout!
Was the roadster in the first pic for sale? Also need a T coupe decklid, rough is OK if you run across one cheap.
Manyolcars: I saw you at tractor supply in henderson. You should have stopped by the shop. Did the guy in bryan say that the 32 was for sale?
Sure hackjobs were common, but some around here think that such things never existed, sure. I'll take the car anyway, it's cool as hell. The '34 ain't for sale is it?
Nads last time I talked to the guy the 34 was not for sale, customer's car he was building. Need to check again, looks like it has got pushed outside for quite a while now. Has a nice 58 Chev PU there also, same story.
Meester P, Thank you for the Bugatti link! This was the last one I got to do the body restoration and paint work on about 20 years ago.
