Setting up my rear suspension with a 4 link and got it all welded up and everything moves freely but just wondering if you can use a sway with a 4 link set up? Added some pictures, its a triangulated 4 link, moves freely real nice but as i have it set up right now with out the coil overs in place, but i would like to install a sway bar to keep the suspension moving up and down in a more controlled/ equal way and it seems the sway bar will do exactly that. Do you think it matters if i mount the sway bar in front of the cross member and point the links towards the rear or mount the bar behind the crossmember and point the links forward.
Show us some pic's of the front and rear suspension setups and you will probably get some real good ideas. Sway bar is OK. Sorry after a 2nd look at your thread I see the pic's, seems they did not appear 1st time around. Be nice if somebody with extra skills could draw on your pic's and show how they best thing a sway bar would be installed. I also see a sway bar kit sold on ebay for a front axle running a SBC engine, the SBF must has oil pan issues with this setup.
Yes, it can be done. If there's enough clearance it looks like it would work to mount the sway bar in front of that cross member, with the arms pointed forward.. that would keep it hidden and out of the way. Make sure to size it correctly (smaller than the front sway bar).
Alright thank you im trying to find one in chrome or stainless, anyone know where to find one. Not having any luck
Yes I would go with a sway bar. One other thing, put another set of tabs on the top axle link mounts so that they are in double shear. Under acceleration those are going to see a lot of load in tension.
Ive tried to attach a copy of the front sway bar kit components. Plus a couple pic's of a rear sway bar I will be using on a model A pickup rear end. From my limited knowledge on the topic of sway bars I'd suggest get a spring steel item and chrome it if you want shinny. Personally I'd prefer not chromed.
Before / if you chrome the sway bar, check out the subject "hydrogen embrittlement". Make sure the plater knows his stuff...
Sway bars on triangulated 4 bars are very common. Look at all the stock GM and Mustangs that have that rear suspension set up, they all have sway bars. Here is a rear shot of the triangulated 4 Link in my Falcon with a sway bar. You can just see the sway bar up by the gas tank
