Quick question, Are the fenders the same on a regular coupe and a deluxe coupe on the 1939 Ford coupe? I have found a 1939 Coupe and wondering if the fenders & hood are the same on both the standard and deluxe? I have a messload of "deluxe" parts that I'm wondering if would transfer to this car.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Unfortunately, no they're not. Everything from the cowl forward is different. 38 Deluxe front sheetmetal will fit on a 39 Standard, but 39 Deluxe is the same shape and size as 40 Deluxe and Standard.

  3. The deluxe stuff will bolt on no problem. But you can't mix and match it to the best of my knowlege. You either use the standard sheet metal or the deluxe sheet metal.

'39 standard and deluxe are totally different. The standard is basically carryover '38 deluxe, and the '39 deluxe is similar to '40 standard. Hoods, cowl sides, front fenders and running boards are very obvious. Look at some pictures from Ford suppliers like Carpenter or Drake and you'll see the difference.

There is a way around it, sort of! I have a 39 Deluxe coupe body to which I'm mating 38 Deluxe front sheetmetal. Nothing matches! But, I am buying the lower side cowls from EMS for the 38 Deluxe, and am searching for some used upper 38 side cowls. That would basically transform the area where the front sheetmetal joins/overlaps from 39 Deluxe to 38 Deluxe. Its a pain in tha ****, but still cheaper than replacing all my front sheetmetal.

ok lets clear up a few things,

1937,1938std lower front cowls are the same, a 37 front clip will bolt to a 38std and a 38std will bolt to a 37, but you can not interchange parts between the front clips.

1938 deluxe, 1939, 1940 all have the same lower cowl, but that does not mean all front clips interchange. here what our in house 39/40 guy said

1939 deluxe and all 1940 front clips will interchange, mixing pieces between front clips gets tricky

1938 deluxe and 1939 std front clips will interchange, again mixing pieces gets tricky

the cause is that in 1939 deluxe and 1940 had a complete hood with out hood sides

the 38 deluxe and 39 std had hood sides

this is why the upper part of the cowl sides are different between 39 std and deluxe

i hope everything is clear, comments on this are welcome

Can you please confirm this? I thought 38 Deluxe and 39 Standard had the same lower cowl, while 39 Deluxe and 40 had the same lower cowl which differ from the 38 Deluxe/39 Standard, but that the same lower cowl is not the same through 38 Deluxe, 39, and 40 as you've listed above? I will be buying lower cowls for a 38 Deluxe shortly, and need to get the correct parts:

Listed as 1937-39 on your site: http://www.emsautomotive.com/Pn147.html

Listed as 1939 Deluxe and 40 on your site: http://www.emsautomotive.com/Pn165.html

    Many thanks

    OK "STEVE 38" GOT ME

    THIS IS THE UPDATE:

ok lets clear up a few things,

1937,1938std lower front cowls are the same, a 37 front clip will bolt to a 38std and a 38std will bolt to a 37, but you can not interchange parts between the front clips. these front clips may fit 38 deluxe and 39 std.

1938 deluxe, 1939 std. ,all have the same lower cowl, but that does not mean all front clips interchange. these should interchange as a front clip,

here what our in house 39/40 guy said

1939 deluxe and all 1940 front clips will interchange, mixing pieces between front clips gets tricky.

1938 deluxe and 1939 std front clips will interchange, again mixing pieces gets tricky. 37 clip may fit.

the cause is that in 1939 deluxe and 1940 had a complete hood with out hood sides

this is why the upper part of the cowl sides are different between 39 std and deluxe

i hope everything is clear, comments on this are welcome

Are the bodies on a 38 deluxe coupe and a 39 standard coupe the same from the cowl area backwards? ie, is the roofline and profile of the cars the same...i know the 38`s have a gutter that runs around onto the trunk area.I`ve looked at pictures but cannot say for definate if the side on profiles of the two models are the same.

    Anyone know ?

sorry if I should not tag this onto here...

the front cowl area is the same and everything back to the trunk is kind of, or they are the same except the trunk lid is the 39/40 lid which makes the trunk lid area different and most of the 1/4 panel area from the rear tire back. with the tailpan change came a toolbox change also and some of the trunk floor
