Lets do a remake of HOT ROD 1979

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 2many projects, Oct 16, 2010.

  1. My favorite car-guy movie of all time. "HOT ROD" starring Gregg Henry.
Who would you plug in to play the parts?
Would you use a Willys again? (of course you would).
Would you alter the script to include more street race scenes, more *** or romance, more violence?
How about using a SHOC Ford this time? Maybe a big old Caddy or Olds engine instead? A 427 Chevy with a Man A Fre would make for some discussion, no?

leave that movie alone - the plot devices work perfectly - it is a great revenge flick - there is no need to add more *** - keep it kid friendly......
I really think that film holds up today.

    great movie

I am sure Bobwop will chime in - its one of his faves as well

  4. I love that movie, I have a copy on DVD that my wife says I am going to wear out some day.

  5. when i first saw it, we only had a black n white tv!
dad let me stay up late to watch it.
recently a good friend brought it around for me to watch and damn! it was in colour. lol.
it wasnt chessy like others of the era.
i wouldnt mess with a good thing, its perfect as is.

isnt the "fast and the furious" the modern day version? lol.

    What a great movie!

Remember Brian Edison (Gregg Henry) calling the Olds "paint job"...when they were running side by side in the 65 Plymouth?

Have to pull that one out and watch it again tomorrow!

Would the SOHC still come out of an AMC cop car? :p

  11. They could pull a museum heist for the S.O.H.C. or maybe some retired circle track team would step up to the plate to help whip Munn.
"Barn finds" of all kinds existed back in 1979 BEB *.

    * Before E Bay.

Can you picture Jay Leno playing the junk yard proprietor and offering up the Willys to the main character played by Mike Rowe maybe?
Stephanie Courtney (Flo) could play the chick.

Someone other than Trapper John as the baddie cop, and no 426 Hemis in AMC Matador cop cars. That last part was the only part of the movie that was really too much. Everything else was fine.

  13. I agree with you Komet............plucking a 426 Hemi from and AMC did seem a little wierd.

Howzabout Conan O'Brien as the cop maybe?

Perfect movie!!!! I can remember the night I first saw it. At my Grandmothers...I was bored until I saw that movie come on the TV. My parents had to wait til it was over to leave.

Wish I could get a good clear copy. Bought a copy once and it was nothing more than a recorded from the TV version with the comercials edited out.

That was a great flick ! Bad enough they redo the great flicks from the 70's but then twist a few things around to make it different and more modern with a tuner car ! That just plain ****s !

There is nothing better than a blown hemi in a Willy's ! A true drag car of the 60's & 70's . I still like the big black guy in the speed shop . He gives Brian the blower so he can beat that chump , Sonny Munn in his Olds ! There were some really good drag races in that film !

Nothing better than buying a Willy's in a junkyard , then stealing a cops hemi , then taking Sonny Munns girlfriend , then stealing some parts from Munns drag museum then kicking Sonny's *** on the drag track !

Yep that was great movie ! I think I have all of those movies that were mad on DVD . Some days I just sit back and watch them all day long , one right after the other !

That really is a corny movie, but I'll be darned if it isn't still one of my all-time favorites! You know how lately Hollywood tries to make a movie about cars and you can just tell that nobody really knows a damn thing about anything related to the culture? Well, when you watch "Hot Rod", you can just tell that there were people behind the scenes that were car guys/ex-racers and KNEW what they were actually doing. That's the best way I can sum it up.

  21. No ****... WTF?

Where would you "find" a Cammer Ford???

Hey Bill, good to see you post! I love your avitar! Yup, that is the "paint job" 1969 F85 Oldsmobile from "HOT ROD"

For all you "HOT ROD" fans out there, Bill Taggart and his parents owned the Oldsmobiles used in the movie. There were actually two "paint job" F85's and don't forget Mom's station wagon.

If I recall, the wagon was driven by the guy that welched on his bet, then they hauled him out of the bar and tipped him upside down?

The Taggarts sold one of the F85's and the other was stolen. It was partially recovered.

anyway, last I heard Bil Taggart was thinking of restoring the remaining F85. Would I love to see that!

I sold my primer grey Willys, the one in my avitar. I also sold the orange 1950 Olds that actually was used in the movie.

funny thing, the guy that now owns the Olds just contacted me last week and offered me the chance to buy it back. I absolutely love that car.

Coolstuff sells good quality DVDs of HOTROD, so hit him up if you wish to purchase one.

I love that movie. My best friend and I wore out the VHS during middle school! Could never find another copy. I love that movie. Not only is the movie, the plot and the drag racin cool, I love the cars!! Stude truck, willies and my all time favorite muscle car (under rated) 69 olds!

If I was ever to change any part of the movie, I would give "paint job" a milder paint job. I know, I know. It was the 70's and those are the colors for Munns... but still! haha!
