My dad has an old Sun Auto Tester I suspect from the 50's. Anyway, it's pretty complete and he wants to get it restored. I was wondering if anyone out there knows someone who restores these engine "diagnosticators". I'd love to be able to use it myself. It's a cool looking gadget. Thanks for the help. By the way I'm in College Station, Texas. Craig
One of the instructors at the college used to be a Sun distributor for about 30 years. He, I am sure could give you some pointers. What model is it? -Brant
There's a guy on the Garage Journal board who restores old Sun machines, I don't recall his name but you could check over there.
Gray, I returned your PM. After doing so, I then read your post here in which you called your Dad's unit a "diagnosticator" ... maybe it's not a distributor tester as I thought. (Anyhow, I referred him to Mark Saunders www.paramountd.com and to Bob Masters www.distributortester.com who offer Sun machine services. "goodfellow" sounds like he can help but I'm not sure if he restores equipment for others ... can ask. I have a couple of Sun machines, but the one pictured is the first I've really torn into ... so I'm not quite a restoration expert. If it works when I get it back together, I then might be qualified to give advice.)
cant really help ya out on the electronics .. here is one i repainted this summer in texaco for a customer yours must be missing the bottom .
Lots of bottom cabinets are being used for tool boxes after the distributor machine gave up the ghost. I have one and know where at least one other is. I too would be intersted in finding someone to work on part of my Sun machine. I have some manuals.
you are planning on restore the one in the picture or use it for parts ? anyone can tell me were to get an rpm indicator for the sun dt-500? thanks,
Been looking for some Sun Variable Spark Gap or VSG units that would mount on top of a distributor tester. Anyone know where to find them? Thanks.
