I have decided to create another thread to chronicle the events of this build due to the fact of my plans changing severely after the car was delivered yesterdsy, my plans now include the use of the original Plymouth "double dip" front axle and a 270 gmc straight 6 for power
Looks like a very good car to build. Did Plymouths from the early 30's have alot of wood framing in the bodies, like GM cars did?
Nice Plymouth, doesn't that already gave a double dip axle? Does it have a sway bar on it by anychance?
there is some wood, like in between the body and frame, kind of like a gasket, also rear and quarter window frames, and thin pieces for upholstery tacking throughout the interior, but nothing very structural for the most part
those 33-34 mopars are well built.the frames is twisted, man those things have really good/strong frames. you know what happened to twist it? i sold my part of one a long time ago regret it still. those things have great body lines/styleing on them. keep us posted
Ya no joke, the frames are really overbuilt, it looks to me like someone jumped it, or some sort of other severe vertical impact
i may have missed it are you going to try to use the frame? should be easy for a frame shop to fix,i would think..................
33-34 MoPars are very cool. You don.t see many and they look like a chopped ford. I have had My 33 Dodge cp for 43 years and is a part of the family. I will hand it down to my son. 33 years ago I put in a 327 chev ( that is what was done at that time) and ran stock brakes/suspention for 28 years. Then I updated the rear springs and put in a tube drop axle. I drive it every where. Good luck on yours. Looks like a great start.
awsome car, wish i can find one down this way. gm 270 ? that things need a flathead 6 with dual carbs,so happens i have one for sale in the cl***ifieds .im staying tuned to this thread..
i am still debating this, time will tell for the most part, although it isnt just a minor tweak, there are many crossmembers and such involved
I just picked up a 34 Plymouth a few weeks ago from my neighbor. The 34 PF has that independent front and I would also like to run the wavy axle & leaf springs which I found. My frame is fine just got it got that funky independent **** on it. I'm going with a 241 Red Ram which is in the shop now. This is a GOOD Post! Lets keep it going, Jim
nice coupe! i was pondering a red ram myself, until i found a 270 in my back yard! and this is my first car, so there is no chance on me stopping until it is finished, that is if i want a set of wheels! haha
True story...when I was 15, I bought a 33 coupe like yours. Olds motor/trans..pontiac rear...no wiring, not much interior but bone straight with shiny metallic blue paint and funky wheels. Now this was 1963 mind you, I paid $35.00 for the car...took it home and my friend and myself spent the next 3 days wiring it. Well...I didn't have a battery and being 15 and stupid, we went midnight auto supply for one. 3 blocks up the street we found an old ford wagon for a donor. Next day I was running it up and down the street, dialing it in when out comes the old man. It was the week-end and he was home from MCRD in San Diego where he was a D.I. He casually asks me..." where did you get a battery?" He knew I didn't have one. Oh...I borrowed it I said. "Well," he says, " the guy you borrowed it from saw you and called me, we're friends." OOPS! OK, I'll take it back I said. No you won't he says...you will sell that car and buy him a new one! What?..a battery costs like 10.00, no way! The car got sold...it was either that or the beating to end all beatings and he was a Marine D.I. no way was I gonna whoop him or even give him a good go. Well, the lesson stuck...I never stold a battery again. I LOVED that car...for the whole week I owned it! Thanks for the memories man and I wish you better luck with that one than I had with mine...lol
There is Hamb member that was making disc conversion parts for these spindles, also butch's hot rod shop has a lot of parts that allow you to install a new dodge motor in it. They also have a kit to add vega steering I believe. On the rear you can run a maverick rear and keep the same lug pattern. Also there is a couple mopar places that sell the wood piece that goes between the body and the floor and the all the interior wood as well. good luck, these make really nice hotrods
