Hello everyone, I'm looking for some help ID'ing two 454 blocks that I have. Both have a casting number at the bellhousing #361959, which I can have found to be '73-85 blocks. What I'm trying to find out is what the stamping on the block forward of the head decodes to. the stamping looks like block #1 : c9b147053 block #2 : c6j113382 both blocks have "high perf p***" stamped in the bellhousing, with block #1 also has R8 block #2 has F3 Supposedly both of these came out of mid to late '70s trucks. Any help, ideas, or links to info on these would be greatly appriciated. Thankyou. Mike
Fella's and Feline's, He IS reading these numbers correctly. I have laid my peepers on 'em also. They do, in fact read: block #1 : c9b147053 block #2 : c6j113382 I have exhausted everyplace that I can think of to look. I even checked a couple odd places like MerCruiser boats. I struck out. Fatman06 and myself will be rebuilding these. Just kinda wonderin' what's their story. HRT
Virtually all BBC have High perf cast in them except tall deck engines and I believe all car engines started with the "C" designation and trucks with "T". I have pulled several BBCs out of mid to late 70s cop cars. The only reason the code would be important is if you are doing a resto as they are fairly generic if they are 2 bolt mains. Good luck.
The numbers you're looking at are the partial VIN. C = Chevy truck 6 = 1976, 9 = 1979 model year J = Janesville WI ***embly plant, B = Baltimore ***embly plant If you can find the other stamped number that looks like T0513TWB or something, it is the engine number, and gives you the engine plant, engine ***embly date, and suffix code look both on the deck surface in front of the p*** side head, and on the little boss above the timing cover
