A whole bunch of pics of the Dodge from today, taken with my camera.

When I showed up at Rich's house he had already moved the engine off the engine stand. He also installed the gilmer drive on the damper. Rich is a master at reusing bits that are around his shop. The gilmer drive pulley is from the Lotus engine he ran. ( in the 80's?) I don't think I actually snapped a good shot of it but we will see.

Bellhousing/blowshield with trans installed for fitting, we installed once with the flywheel/cltch off so we could double check how far the Trans input shaft was going into the pilot bearing. Checked out OK, forward with ***embly.

    ***embly, bellhousing plate and flywheel

    Friction plate and clutch

    Throwout bearing and fork

The pinto trans is very light, I picked it up while standing over it and after a couple trys everything slid together, here is a blurry pic of Rich putting in bolts

Then Yoda lifted the motor so we could admire it, no actually we just used the lift since apparently Yoda didn't actually come to help out today.

Rich taking a rest and admiring his handiwork

I spent some time cleaning the roadster, Rich asked why I was wiping off all his Muroc dust. Also just some shots of the roadster.

    Back to work! Tight fit!

    Getting close

We removed some of the oil lines, the primer pump was in the way. That is okay though, it comes off.

We were a little worried about the original starter bump hitting the steering box, that does not come off!

    step back and ponder

Transmission lined up with/slipped onto drive shaft and we were actually 1/4" past the mount bolt lining up! Hard to see the shaft in the pic

Will come back next year to finish

Started bulge clears steering box just fine!

We will need to work on the clutch fork, it hits the frame, and will probably hit the firewall before engaging the clutch. Yeah yeah, a problem for next year

Just a peek at the clutch slave cylinder

That is all for now, have a happy and safe New Years Eve!!!!!!

    Great set of photos!

What does the braided line that goes from the water jacket to just above the pan surface of the block do?

That is not the water jacket. That is the old intake. The original carb bolted right to the block right at that spot. The air used to go through the block to a big plenum that feeds all four cylinders which is also cast into the block.

When Rich made the modifications to allow the running of the Morton & Brett OHV head, he was concerned that oil would ac***ulate in the unused original intake chambers. That line allows oil to return to the pan if it does get into the old intake.

Here is a pic from the internet

Rocking and Rolling into the new year Hi all its just after 9am new years day and we are still getting shakes down here in the south seas . (can tell ya its real scary when you are working under your car when one hits.) The RP is progressing steadly brakes are done with new linings , rods bushes drums ect its fun trying to get bent spoke kelseys to fit over new cast iron drums. the new front end is fitted and the chromed diff quickchange and overdrive are ready to go in. The Rutherford head has been polished and Pats magic front plate is looking the part with a Nisson electronic dizzy fitted. The Rutherford two piece sump has been polished and is waiting to see if it will clear the tie rod. after forty odd years on the road this has turned into a major rebuild it is surprising what you find wrong when you get in and dirty fun though.
I wish all my banger friends and supporters a happy new year for you and yours and hope the new year brings what you dream of .
Now wheres that hair of the dog must be old age didnt think I drank that much have a good un fellas

jakeknapp29 congrats on a neat ride. Newport is definitely my all time favorite annual pilgrimage. Had my best time to date, this year, at 32 1/2. Note bad for a heavy ol' '31 tudor. What a blast!

crminal, I'm running a vintage Ansen intake with twin strombergs on a late '31 (indented firewall) without a fuel pump and get prlenty of feed even for running hillclimbs. Don't know if float-o-motor mounts help or not but as long as your setup allows for the gravity feed don't bother with an electrci pump. It's just one more variable thrown into the mix.

Thx Ron for the picture, I printed it out on 8.5x11, gonna frame it & give it to Dan Iandola when I visit him in the Hospital tomorrow. It's a little blurry at that size but still viewable. Here's a few pics of our wounded 9.2 sec. hill climb warrior. It got injured running the dirt oval at Willow Springs after the 66 hill climb. Miraculously the block looks ok, a few little ding marks in the head & bent exhaust valve. Hopefully a new set of racing pistons will bring about a cure. Pat

That's Moona Lisa, short tail Manx, she has one blue & one gold eye & she is not deaf but sure full on mischief, in the picture she is safeguarding my wife from Indian attack. I've been trying to teach her to run the lathe but she has a short attention span! Cheers to everyone in the new year! P

Russ, Dan helped me re-babbitt those rods & they survived all the drama! quite amazing. In retrospect we knew what pistons were in the engine, just never expected it to run as hard as it did. We finally put to rest all the negative comments about the silly looking intake manifold with the Carter AFB carb. Pat

certainly proved a point Pat I have a feeling that tuned extractor system helped as well the air flow through that engin must be similar to one of Ed Winfields designs.

    Thanks, Zenon

    I suspect it's the same as a 389 V8.

I mean the spacing of the mains, the bore spacing is 4.62, just like the 389. I wondered if any one might know the spacing of the mains. I was wondering if the mains would line up with the mains in the 26 dodge.
