Looking at buying a rear suspension kit for my 50 Chevy. Going to open driveline. Some say use the stock, Posies makes a wider leaf that fits stock mounts but $350, for another $150 you get everything, shocks, upper shock crossmember, etc... Waltons looks real nice but more money for less parts with that kit. I have a 72 Nova rear axle ready for the car and Ch***is engineering specifies their kit is for these axles, so I ***ume no perch changes or anything are required. I am leaning toward the CE kit but just wondered if anyone here has used one before and had good or bad luck with it.
Yes, I've used several. They fit great, work great and install easy. Even the do it yourself universal kits are nice. Currently have one installed on a client's 1940 Chevy coupe, my father's 33 Dodge, and a friends Rambler project.
Have used ch***is eng on several builds. Used 9 inch and chevy rear ends both and perches work fine. They have great kits and always bolt right in. I like em.
U also used their kit in my 40 chevy coupe with a 57 ford wagon rear axle. I also sprung for their stabilizer bar kit at the same time...nothing but good stuff..
good choice and very easy to install.. the hardest part was drilling out the old rivits.. here's mine before i put the shocks on...
The kits are great, they work as advertised and are a big time saver... I don't think you understand what these kits are. Might want to look into it. Perches and u-bolts won't get that job done.
I've got (most of) the parts to put one in my '36 3-window. Now if they ever get their springs from their vendor, I can get to work..
WOW, sounds like the right choice. I like it because it is affordable, all in one kit, everything I need. Hate chasing around trying to piece stuff together and in the end I have spent more time and money. Are the springs that come with their kits dropped springs? Or do you get to choose that with your individual order when you place it.
Ch***is Engineering parts/kits have two things going for them..............they fit and they do the job. I've used several of their offerings on past builds and couldn't be more satisfied. Get your order in and get on with your project. Frank
I just drilled out a heap of rivets (Lost count of how many) on my '46 Olds ch***is doing my front and rear suspension and found that grinding the rivet dome down to a flat top just above the frame works. Then use a 3/16" drill and then a 3/8", only need to go level with top of frame and a BFH, and voila, done. Did the same with my '34 Chevy frame, saves time and effort. Just my $0.02 worth.
I have just finished putting a rear kit on a 37 Chev. Used the air chissel to cut the riviet tops off and then air hammered the rest of them out with the air punch. Kit went in as instructed and no problems. IMHO they have their **** together over at CE.
Hell, your only a couple of hours away. They're just over in West Branch, Ia right on I80. Give em a call and go pick the stuff up. Save the shipping. Take a tour of their humble facility. They are great people to deal with. I got a whole pickup load of stuff for my 37 chevy a while back. Everything worked great.
I agree with Stonebird, go get it yourself and take cash, they always give me better deals when I do it that way. Great products and Super people to deal with! Tell them you want to see the Salt flat record holder they have too. Good luck!
Yeah, I have to go over to Ames,Iowa for work on the 9-10 of Jan. I should just set it up and swing by on the way. Better deals with cash, I like that.
