Hey guys I stumbled across the bord while searching for S-10 Frame Swap to a 1946 Chevy Pickup. I've already learned a lot from reading here. I'm currently searching for an S-10 frame to put under my truck. I'm going to be putting the LS1 out of my 98 TransAm into the 46 (i've got a new motor built for boost for the TransAm) anyway I've got big plans for the little truck, including Chop Top, and Extended cab. Couple of questions. For you people who have put some higher horse power motors in your trucks that are using the S-10 for a doner. What rear end are you guys running? Stock S-10, or something else? I don't know much about the S-10 is it an 8.5" rear? Anyway, Just thought I'd stop in and say hi, here's a link to my website which will soon contain pictures of my truck. http://www.fbodypages.com/justin98transam look forward to talking with some of you guys to get some ideas and help :)

just so im clear as to which message board im on, this isnt BOYDSBILLETBOARD is it?

ok good im here on the hamb....got scared for a minute....ok hey newbie..lets sit down and chat lil fella.

first off your screen name is reminiscent of that which would be in a teenage chatroom, but thats your biz

second, you have an awesome truck why shoot it in the heart? hell im not even that bothered by the engine as i am the whole package? s10 frames are ok, they usually dont end up looking right. extended cab? how much billet do you plan on installing in this cl***ic truck?
"oh man i seen these awesome billit collapsable cup holders for your duece" s}puke

look man, you got a cool truck leave it on the stock frame...just update the suspension, put the f.i. motor in it if you must, but please for the love of all things chevy and holy keep it vintage!

Wow.... thanks for the warm welcome, now I remember why I love message boards.

    So, here goes..

Screen name is the same screen name I use on all the other message boards so why make another?

I don't have the original frame I've just got the shell. The S-10 has a lot of parts availabiltiy, it's cheap and the suspension is already modern along with the brakes. There's a company that makes motor mounts for the S-10 so my engine will go right in.

Extended cab there is two reasons, I hate to be cramped inside a car, and I saw a picture of a 46 that was converted and it looked really nice!

LS1 Engine.. umm.. well why waste a perfectly good 450hp motor that's just going to be sittin' around?

and last I thought this was a "Hot Rod and Custom" message board, not a "restore to factory" message board.

But hell if you guys just want to run off new members, or people who may be interested in these things just continue with your current welcome wagon.

Again Thanks for the warm welcome, I'll just read and see If I can find anythin useful.

The operative word in our Hot Rods and Customs is Traditional. We tend to focus on a rather narrow interpretation of hot rods and customs. Maybe your project is too new - maybe not. The best way to find out is to stick around and read a bit, then make the decision.

ok good im here on the hamb....got scared for a minute....ok hey newbie..lets sit down and chat lil fella.

Maybe GRSMNKYCUSTOMS should have addressed you as "Fellow Newbie".

Anyway, be here, or be somewhere else....

Sloooooowly reinsert the pin grenade inspector, and STFU

    New guy
This place heavily leans toward traditional stuff, that being said yes traditionally hot rodding has in fact always been about updating. Most of us just live in the past here and like it.
Welcome & good luck with the chevy.

It is. It's just that there are hundreds of places to go for extended cab, LS1 S-10 ch***ised, 20-inch wheeled old trucks. The guys here don't want this board to become that. This is the place for discussing nostalgic hot rodding, not the latest billet doo-dad catalogs.
Don't be so sensitive. You F-body guys are usually a pretty thin skinned bunch. :D Kick back, take a look at some old threads, search for what you're looking for and see if this place has what you're looking for. It may not.

And welcome, hope we can change your direction. ;)

    Thanks for the info.

Like I said when I found the board I was searching for an S-10 swap, and it looked like it was a pretty well received thread, so I figured maybe this was a good place to ask about such things.

Anyway, as for teh think skin I usually don't have a problem with that, I'm a moderator on our F-Body board, so I have to put up with a bunch of ****, but typically not on the guys first post :)

I'd like to see some pics of your rides, if you got some links to them. I'd like to put up a pic of my truck but right now it's just a rusty black pile in the corner of my shop haha..

I was once a new guy to, but the difference between you and me was I knew my place and didn’t try to talk like id been here forever and I still don’t. as for being a “uptight basted” I defiantly don’t get my blood pressure up over guys like you. As for the new guy not belonging here I doubt that very many people here stepped into the old car hobby only liking traditional stuff only. All im saying is give the guy a chance. Personally id rather talk to him than some rat rod rockasilly seanster. LOL:rolleyes:

haha.. you guys are funny. Well i may be a kid by your standards I'm getting close to my 30's so I haven't gone through the mid-life crisis you guys are probalby in at the moment. :D I'm just a car freak I like V8 power I used to be a ford person until I owned my first GM vehicle. And if any of you know anything about F-Body people I do think that the LS1 was touched by the hand of God :) haha.. anyway seriously though I do want to make this vehicle a NICE vehicle, not NICE as in all the nuts and bolt heads are at 90 degree angles, or everything is chromed and polished. I plan on driving this car just like I drive my 98TA. I will take it to a few shows as well but it's first and formost a driver. I'd also like to vist the 1/4 mile with it as well which is where my question about the rear end came from.

No offense man, but no one here wants to talk about LS1 swaps and billet wheels. There's nothing wrong with them, they're just ugly and modern. :) Two things that this board frowns upon...

And yes, I know all about the mighty LS1. http://www.boknows.org/Ls1_God.jpg

In fact I'm considering an LS1/6spd swap in my '99 Ranger, but that is not a topic for this board. ;)

    Try over here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/index.php3?

I have a couple old trucks and that place is a great. There's a lot of helpful people on there and lots parts. When the search feature is up, that's pretty damn handy too. You'll like that place better.
Yes, this place is aimed towards traditional hotrods and customs. You still may be able to find some stuff usefull though. Personally, I like em' all. With billet or not.
I've never been a member of a board like this. There are quite a few outspoken members here who like to run off newbies that may be able to contribute. Some of these guys make comments in their posts that they sure the heck wouldn't say face to face with you.
Try not to let it bother you...read...contribute if you can.

I was in Sedona Last year, we didn't drive though, really nice place! I'm 28 so you still got be bay a year ya old fogie :p

Hmm.. race for pinks eh... what do you got in the little 95? :)

As for the modern and ugly, I just like Fuel Injection becasue I know how to work on it, if you gave me a carburator I'd use it as a door stop, becasue that's the only thing I would know how to use it for. But give mey My PCM and my computer to tune it and Then I can work a little. :)

Then you're on entirely the wrong board. :)

You might try the swap section on LS1 or LS2.com, that's the kind of car/truck they build over there.

Or feel free to stay here and watch, hopefully you'll figure out soon how much cooler it would be done the "right" way. ;) Not that shiny paint is a bad thing by any means...

Hey Justin, WELCOME to the playground. Check out the search function and the TECH files under either S-10 or SO-WHAT. The guys at the SO-WHAT SPEED Shop are masters of the S-10. Good luck-MIKE:D
