I heard Greenhorn was being restored but i havn't seen it.I would like to see the car to see how much has been changed.I didn't change too much when i drove it on the street.
I always yearned to see this car, Dick Shroyer and the teams AA/GS Cuda, but none ventured outwest. Ohio was a hotbed of good quality race cars.
How about some of the guys and gals out of Thompson Drag Raceway or Howland? Toil, Goodman, Perko, Best, Hruska, Farroni Bros., Carver, Peck......many, many others
How about the Arfon's brothers and their V-12 Allison Powered Green Monster? It was big but boy did it get with the program. They even did some Allison's in their day for championship Unlimited Class Hydro-Plane racing boats. Normbc9
This may be back a little too far, but Yeagley and Taylor (also Walt Kepler) had a dragster back in the early 60's and were quite popular at Quaker City Dragway in Salem, Ohio.
Around 20 years ago, I met Arlen at a little body shop in my home town of Onemkama, MI. He had retired there and was in the process of building a duplicate of these cars for nostalgia drags. Helluva nice guy. Even did some work on a Bronco I was building at the time. I couldn't get it timed properly and he showed me the trick. It was so much fun hanging around him and trying to gain a little of his knowledge.
Don't forget Bob Larimore's 'Matchmaker' Chevelle from Springfield,Ohio. Basically,it was a Fuel Altered with one of the first all-fiberglass bodies. And a 4-speed!

Found a couple of pic's of cars northern Ohio's Ronny Potter ran in the late '60's- early '70's. First his A/FD car. This car and all following were called "The Golden Nugget". Ronny sold it to a close friend in early '73 and he ran it as The Golden Gem for a couple of years. After that it was turned into a sand drag car. Second is Ronny's AA/FD car. It was run untill he got a funny car. He crashed the funny car at Gainsville, had major med. problems and never raced again.
Did the Rod Shop crew ever run a 40-41 willys ?? There is an ex racecar near me that was turned into a street rod about 18 years ago that was supposedly a Rod Shop car.. I can't verify that but I beleive when Ed purchased it was a yellow Willys............ Now its Hotrod black and a BBF for power. I am supposed to get a hold of him to re-do some interior sheetmetal in a few months maybe I can get some more info but this thread jogged my memory a little. Travis
I cannot believe that eastcoast57 hasn't posted some good pics of his father and grandfather. ( John and Bobby Hilton)Come on, Tyler
The Rod Shop team never had a Willys but a few of the team members had a Willys before joining the Rod Shop. Clyde Sutton had a coupe and Stickel,Riffle and Noltemeyer had a sedan and last Stickel and Riffle had a coupe. None of the Willys had anything to do with the Rod Shop. I know what happened to the cars, and your friends Willys is not one of these.
I love the Billy the Kid photo ............ classis as well as the Apricot Brandy vette ...... got to be the best looking one I have evr seen in that year. Travis
Check out my thread I started for early Ohio drag racers... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=586970 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LATE '50s-EARLY '60s Dragway 42 Pictures... Attended Dragway 42 as a kid from 1958 to 1963... anybody got pictures from then, and there? Or, pictures of the cars that regularly ran there, during that time frame?
