i JUST BOUGHT A MOONEYHAM BLOWER AT A GARAGE SALE. THE OWNER SAID HE DID NOT KNOW ANY THING ABOUNT IT BECAUSE IT WAS GIVEN TO HIM BY SOMEONE WHO OWED HIM MONEY. HE SAID HE THOUGHT IT TO BE A 6 OR 8 71. BUT LOOKING AT IT I THINK IT IS A 12-71. IT HAS LARGE PORTS TOP AND BOTTOM AN D IS STAMPED 12M33 ON THE TOP. IT IS COATED AND DOES NOT LOOK TO BE ALUINUM POSSIBLY MAG. I CAN'T SEEN ANY WEAR ON THE MOUNTING AREAS AND IT IS WELL OILED. I DONT THINK IT HAS EVER BEEN RUN. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED. I WILL NEED MOUNTING HARDWARE FOR BBC AND PULLYS

Perhaps this won't be of any help, but Gene Mooneyham is still alive and kicking and, in fact, up until about a year ago he still owned and ran the blower shop. It was sold and Gene (well into his seventies) is now a man of leisure. The point is, Gene's old shop is still in business and could probably be found by doing a Google search. I'm certain that if asked they will be able to either confirm or deny it's true identity. If that fails, I can call my friend Steve (who used to work for Gene) to see if he can help. He has regular contact with Gene and so may be very helpful. Let me know if I can assist.

You say you will need mounting hardware and pulleys....

First of all, if it is a BBC you are putting it on, and if it is a 12-71, I think you are going to need to acquire something to relocate the distributor, like a mag drive run off the cam. Which will necessitate something like a REMOTE electric water pump if you are going to run it on the street (drag application will make this situation a lot easier).

Second of all, you will need to locate a blower manifold that has the larger 10-71 to 14-71 blower opening. You may have to have a shop open up a smaller opening.

Besides, running a 12-71 on the street is just not feasible anyway--- never mind the interference with a distributor, think about the amount that it will stuff into the engine and what kind of fuel you will need to run to keep it from detonating. Underdrive the heck out of it? OK, so maybe that will allow you to run this big, cool-looking blower, but it won't be so cool-looking having a REALLY large top pulley in order to turn the blower slow enough.

I think, if you are planning for a street application, and if it is a 12-71, that you are better off hocking it off and then start with something more suitable like a 6 or an 8.

    IMHO

    One more thing...

You will possibly not like the upkeep of magnesium, if you want it polished.

I measured the rotors and it is a 12-71. the dist. is not a prob. I know a guy that can make a magnet pick up sys. that can be mounted almost any where(fly wheel harmonic balancer). but if necc I will relocate the dist. been toying with the idea of a magneto any way. I can put the alt on the driveshaft and just charge while rolling.
The electric water pump is a given.
As for the amount of fuel It is not a daily driver and will probably see more track use than street. A efi is already being discussed and planed. I am going to research and try moddifying a tunnel ram(using the inj. and electron ics) with inj. in the intake or on top of the blower. but that still need planning.

I have planned for this to be a pretty radical rod and do not plan on too much stree driving. I have no rubber in the suspension and am not buildin it for comfort. This is a oh S*** you built that.

I am in the start up phase of my shop. I have done body work for over 15 years and it is my hobby. I plan on this car being a advertisment piece to help spread word of mouth. Again I plan on it being very radical and not a daily driver.

Sounds as though you have thought this out in detail. Keep us in the loop.
