Ok I know it exists but what I really would like to know is if this existed historically or if this was a builders what if dream. The site that I pulled this off of said it was a 29 Chrysler speedster but I cant seem to find any historic info on it. [/IMG]
It looks handbuilt to me but when I have no idea. I'll have to borrow those photos for my idea file for a project I have going.
Thats why I borrowed these pictures myself. Its got a flathead 6 with an updraft carb for motivation. Very cool indeed.
I just want to copy this thing rivet by rivet I can't see how I could improve on it. Here are some more pictures that I got of it.
Is that frame aluminum? Sure looks like it. The shifter looks sorta new to me as opposed to something from 1929, but who knows. Don
Maybe the site you got it from mis titled it, looks a whole lot like a thirties English car to me, but, because I am a Chevie man, I wouldn't have a clue what that engine is. I cant see ANYTHING on that car that faintly resembles a Chrysler product. (cept what I said about the engine) My 2c worth. Good luck Rod
It seems to be a Chrysler product engine late 1930s or later, but that is the only thing that even slightly resembles a Chrysler and certainly not a 1929 Chrysler.
i am not sure I understand the 180 bend on the thermo outlet ... but the plumbing looks cool! ... no pun intended ... the dual taillight/brakelite says britishn to me
Looks like the car is in Ozaukee County in Wisconsin. Says it has Belgian registration. Coach built car perhaps based on Chrysler mechanicals. The engine looks like Chrysler.
Maybe Belgium, Europe. Tailights look very much like 40-50 BMC (Hillmans, Austins etc) Grill looks like an English Allard or similar. Rod Just had another thought,in US, do you have orange indicators or is that a state by state thing? I thought in the old days, when this car was supposedly made, that tail lights doubled up as turn signals. Even the area in which the car is parked looks more European or English than bloody Wisconsin. Elwood, why don't you stop clowning around and post up the site on which you found this car. Too easy. Rod

Interesting that the Chrysler Imperial Club makes NO mention of the car on their website (yes I know it's coach-built, but they seem pretty thorough...), and there are a lot of other custom and one-offs discussed. http://www.imperialclub.com/Articles/literature.htm
Thanks for the links Gimpyshotrods, nice looking car. This is the type of build that really needs a "Term" or correct definition. Looks like a well thought out and well built car that "Could have been" built back in the day. I'm not sure were it would fit into the hobby today, I don't think it could be Vintage Raced, not a Hot Rod, just a nice looking fantasy car.
What a jewel! It does look a lot more like it was European designed and built. Would be interesting to know more about how and why it was built, or if it has any racing history. Did Chrysler have much of a presence in Europe at this time? Reminds me of this 1932 Chrysler Imperial Speedster that I stumbled onto online several months ago, once owned by Walter P. Chrysler, Jr. I'd never seen this car before but it looks to me to be comparable to Duesenbergs or Lincolns of the era. Here's a couple links with more information. http://www.imperialclub.com/Articles/32CarCollector/index.htm http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=569503
Here is were I found it http://www.jameslist.com/advert/306181/for-sale-chrysler-other I was on a James Bond kick so I was trying to find out what DB5's were going for.
If buy "real" do you mean it was built by Chrysler, I don't know, but I doubt it. It looks very much like the kind of car turned out by a small speedster company in Argentina. I don't know if they built it either, but it bares a close resemblance to their work. Perhaps there is some tie. Here is a pic of one of their cars. This particular car is blue, but they build 'em in polished aluminum and the tail, frame covers, and fenders of this car sure look like the Chrysler. Their company website says they build Chrysler specials. http://www.speedsters.com.ar/2011/09/chevrolet-speedster-peking-to-paris.html
