Been out of the cars for a while. Had a marriage go South and had my three kids. Then married a woman with four kids. You would think that would be enough, but no. Had to have one more to make it all even. Most of my wrenching for the last few years has been to keep the family hauler going. The other stuff got sold off to help with everything it takes to raise eight kids. Down to one sixteen year old now. Got the bug back when one of my daughters bought a '67 F-100. We started a frame off and got to the point where we were ready to start putting it back together when she decided that boys were more interesting. She won't sell it to me because she says she plans to finish it so I stacked it up and shoved it over into the corner of the garage. Fortunately my wife was raised by a hot rodder. My avatar is my fathr-in-law's '32 roadster that he bought in-------------1941. Drag raced it open wheel for years, flat head Merc, Olds Rocket, 327 SBC, then 350 sbc. I think I have that right. Anyway he finnally quit racing and put it all back together. It's all steel all original body parts. Sorry got sidetracked. Love that car. Got to looking around and found a '56 mercury 2-door hardtop. Showed it to the wife and she said "It's about itme. Go for it." It's hard to do a search for any car thing on line without you guys popping up. I joined the Scroungers CC message board and you came up there from time to time as well. So figured I better sign up and not just be a lurker. I hope the links work. I guess that is the stuff I have to learn.
The guy I bought it from had already replace the floor pans and inner rockers. He gave me the outer rockers to go with it. The rest of the body is solid but I do need a front crossmember. It looked good when I was lookingat the car originally but when I got it up on the stand and really checked it out I found out it was like an old oak tree. Looked good on the outside but plum rotten on the inside. Got the whole front clip off so now is the time to replace it. Grafting in a 390 FE mated to a C-6.
Yep. Spend alot of time in Lebanon. Is that avatar your coupe? I don't remember seeing it at Octoberfest. Got any pictures of the shoebox? Peeked at your profile.
Yea thats my coupe, swapping motor in it this week had a 50 flatty in it swapping out for a 52 flatty.Never seem to be home for any shows,i always take off to go to Shades of Past and Turkey Run every year.Dont have any pics to post of shoebox yet,i hope i have it traded for another model a coupe
I know where there is a five window sitting in a field 100% complete. Tried getting my hands on it. the guy that owns it says it belonged to his daddy and he's going to fix it up. Told him to name a price but he won't do it. It's been there 18 years that I know of and I'm sure it will sit right there and rot right back into the earth it came from.
That gets on my nerves when people do that. They would just rather let it rot than see some else have it.I dont know much about this area,i havent been living here very long so i havent had much time to get out and ride back roads to locate bodies sittin around.
Thanks for the welcome! The problem with finding old iron arond these parts is there is so much land you can't see. There is all kinds of cars hidden out in these hills and hollows but if someone doesn't tell you about them you'll never find them. If you do it is just as likely to be like the "A". I tried to buy a '40 Dodge sedan. Same thing. I know it's been sitting there for over twenty years but it belonged to their mother and they "just don't think they can let it go." Makes you want to cry or just grab 'em and shake 'em!!
Hey Stew, I was scratching my head a little till I took alook at my e-mail and realized where you found those pics on the internet. Duh!
Just Gadget? Not inspector Gadget? Hey New deal is not too far from Watertown and I have friends in Portland, White House and Gallatin. Do you get down to any shows in Lebanon?
