  3. skovbamsen: Thanks

Well another day and spent the last two days making the front pulley extension for the fuel pump. You start with a chunk of aluminum and remove everything that does not look like it belongs there, spend time cussin and cutting fingers because you ain't the swiftest in the world......but in the end you end up with this.....
    the start.....

Always a pleasure to see your skills Carl, I sometimes can't make it to bandaids and have to go with black tape to keep things moving but at least what you end up with is awesome and I might have to toss what I was working on to the oops bin.

  8. Just dont leave the chuck in the lathe when you flip the switch!

  9. I'm sure you mean the "T" handle, I remember training films in HS where the showed the consequences of this.

I always use plain masking tape, it's handy and seems to stick the best.

  10. Memo to self....
Keep finger out of spinning end mill....

Oh it ain't too bad with these small lathes but leave the T handle in my old 14X40 7 1/2 Horse Hendy and then you had a real problem and you never wanted to make any mistake with that thing it would eat you alive.......

Great job Carl! You are an inspiration to all us do it yourselfers. :) Lippy

  13. Aw, "t"'s in the chucks in the lathes in HS..... Saw a bunch fly and the teacher VERY pissed off. = flying shrapnel!
Carl- That came out awesome! Very Nice! Is it half,or should I say slow down 50%? Either way,Good Job Bud!

  14. Ah Mike I went from a 1.08 to a 1.21 ratio so I gained about 10% maybe, but now I can use a 5 rib belt and mount the fuel pump down lower and have less rotating mass. .....

  15. Hey Carl - looks like you have it covered for the fuel pump drive!

When I first saw the picture, thought you were making a blower drive on the end of the fan mount -- glad it is just a fuel pump drive! I've seen guys try to use those crank pulleys for blower drives - not a good idea.

Keep cranking - and keep your body parts out of the mill will yah! :D

  16. Na Dale when I put the huffer on it will be on a Fluid Dampner with drive on front of that, not the stock pulley..............

  17. Well spent some time thinking about the crankcase scavenging and made some changes to pan in preparation for same. 1/2 NPT for an 10AN fitting to a vacuum pump...............

  18. Good idea! You may want to also pull from the valley area - where the fuel pump originally went. Heck, while you're at it - maybe make some teflon crank scrapers! :D

hi Carl what is this your doing ? a crank case vac system , or puke tank so to speak thanks Tim Jones

  20. Eventually I will put a vacuum on the crankcase and this will be my attachment point, I will need to seal the dipstick and all other points of leakage. I will turn the front seal 180 so the vacuum will suck it shut, the outlet from the vac pump will go to a puke tank.............

Yea Dale been thinking about a scraper also now that my rpm figures have increased........

  21. What's going on with the engine? Hope it's ready to run soon.

  22. still lookin for a few parts...... oil pump pickup(on order), Oberg oil filter, still lookin for one, vacuum pump, some small stuff but looks like a couple of weeks left, then off to the races I hope..........

  23. Let me know when you head to Sac. Speedway I'll haul Elwood up there and join you. ;)

  24. sounds good to me
We hope to be at Speedworld in Ariz on the 3rd-4th of March also....

  25. Well back home and had to clearance the oil pump idler case for the bolts in converter.........

However just to show that not everything goes smoothly......

We're never to old Carl, those "young whippersnappers" are just jealous and afraid we'll beat them. Old age and treachery will beat youth and enthusiasm any day! ;)
