I hear you guys like "barn finds" too. What do you think of this one?

I never quite realized how popular "barn finds" are until recently. As much as I enjoy finding these old cars, I have always kept my eye (intentions) on the eventual full restoration of each I have acquired through the past decades.
In November, 2010 I purchased this '34 standard coupe. I had known about this vehicle since 1968.
The car was owned by the same person since 1949. It was purchased that year ('49) and subsequently parked in a garage where it remained untouched until 1965 when the owner removed the fenders & hood. That was as far as he ever got.
In 2006 the car was moved to his personal residence where it once again sat untouched until I purchased it. With the purchase I was given the title from 1949 as well as the receipt of that sale.
In an attempt to maintain that "patina" that only a very long & dry storage can produce, I have only cleaned the glass and vacuumed the mouse donations. I did polish a very small area on the rumble lid and find the original blue paint fairly well intact.
I have done only what was absolutely necessary to make this car both reliable and road worthy. I have rebuilt the engine and engine accessories (starter, generator, distributor, etc), as well as the transmission, shock absorbers & brakes. I have replaced the tires, wiring harness, clutch, fuel line and king pins. I've boiled out the fuel tank, installed NOS springs and rewired the car as well.
This car is nearly rot free. The ONLY rot is a small area of the rumble seat floor. All of the gauges, lights, etc. work quite well. The car performs as you'd expect of a '34. It starts immediately each and every time and maintains 55 MPH when desired. The mechanical brakes stop straight and proficiently.
The only modifications I find are the addition of a small lamp on the dash and the addition of an ash tray. So very unmolested even the exhaust was (authentic) factory installed. Yes, I have pictures of that!
I was quite surprised to find a nearly complete tool kit beneath the front seat and the authentic manual in the glove box. Although the engine pans were absent, I was fortunate to have found a nice set and have them currently installed. I am not aware of anything else absent. The authentic mats, both front and rumble are there, the rumble mat being actually quite nice.
By the serial number, this is the 4026th '34 built. It has many '33 attributes such as the interior door handles, shock absorbers, etc.

Also, seeing as how you've known the car for 43 years, it would hardly qualify as a barn find.....such an over-used term anymore.

Other than that, congrats and all...when are you going to hotrod it????

Wow, that car is SOLID ! Reminds me of what one would have looked like if you bought it in the 50's, although I'm sure it cost a little more this time around. Very good find and nice way to keep it.

Even more interesting is that it was an original Wisconsin car and I don't see a bit of cancer. Can't be many of those still above ground.

1934 Model production was a running change commencing in Sept 1933 which is why there are far more 1934 model cars than 1933s....

  21. Very nice. Can I get a closeup picture of the mounting brackets for the visors. I need to know how they attach to the header panel. I think I am missing mine. I have no idea what they look like. Thanks. Are you going to hotrod this car?
