This should be the start of something new. Starbird has had a winter car show in Wichita for over 50 years. Wichita is a Rod & Custom town. I see this as an opportunity to keep a tradition alive and also an opportunity to improve the show. So who is going?
Hey Doug, I will be there have sent an entry in for the FED,33 and the Camaro. Have you been by Garys latley the frame for the Vibrasonic is painted and the suspension is installed!
I'll be there with camera in hand. I plan on being there ASAP after my mandatory 3 hours at the office on the Saturday morning, I'll stay most of the day and hopefully can get some shots without too many folk in the background. I'm ready to start shooting interviews both solo and in a group with people that have been around the Wichita rod/kustom world for a few more years than me so hopefully at the show I can start lining up times to meet with people and get their voices telling their stories on "film" See ya there!
Jan. 20-22 www.starbirddevlin.com for info, and to see a few of my shots from last year's show on their site. Here's my gallery to last year's show, however since this show has new owners/managment the show will probably be changing, we all hope for the better!
Haven't went in years. Not since the "new car wing". That did it for me. Plus admission was getting out of hand in my books. If things change I might go back.
Hey Doug, Draggin the 29 in this year, really kinda looking forward to it. Sounds like the guys have made a lot of major changes to the show and is looking more and more like a real Hot Rod and Kustom show.
Huh, what? Can you explain to an out-of-touch Wichita guy what's going on? Will the show be at Century II or the pavillion buildings?
Century II, lots of good changes, lower admission prices, family packages, "lot less non-car related activity", should be good!
what is the door price? and will i have to sift through countless mitsubishi eclipse tuners and brand new, stickers still in the window, mustang gt's? i just dont feel like paying those prices to go see what i could see at joe blow's new and used auto outlet..
Looks like $12 bucks for adults. $20 bucks for husband and wife. That's a more tolerable price, but its still based on turnout. If there isn't a section of carlot cars I may give it a go.
I've been invited...however, it may depend on weather...I-70 between here and there can be treacherous... And Mick, IF I do make it, the Caddy will have doors, hood and trunk opened...just want to forewarn you...!!! But I'd be glad to close them so you can shoot pix...!!! R-
Thanks for the offer to close everything. If it was mine I couldn't do it, seeing it all open takes away from the beauty of the Caddy. Everytime I saw it in Salina I couldn't keep my eyes off her. Very kool!! Happy Trails, Mick
Somehow I have been asked to judge a part of the show.... so I guess I will be there on Saturday afternoon.
I'll be there with a 51 ford made into a custom 2 seater roadster. We took it on hotrod dragweek too. From there its going to Grandnational roadster show.
