Looks like a posi to me, but 1st time to take one apart. So is it a posi and how does one get it apart? I see no screws like on some that hold it together. Thanks ahead of all answers
http://www.7173mustangs.com/thread-how-to-rebuild-a-ford-9-inch D, I think there should be threaded holes you send a bolt into these holes and it will "press" it apart. It separates from the outer most part of the unit where the ring gear bolt holes are. Try this link
All the Trac-loc Ford units I have done have had 4 counter-sunk screws that are hidden under the ring gear. I don't see them on yours.
looks like early Equal lock they were before trac-loc - 28 spline- weaker two pinion case 4 pinion is stonger. The inside is different has wave washer instead of springs.
Definately posi with the countersunk holes. Run it by our Russell in Forney he will tell you which one it is
If this is a posi its not the common ford unit.your better spit it in two and post some inside pictures tapping around the outside edge with a soft faced hammer should do it looks like you may have a aftermarket unit of some kind
I sold that one the other night for 800.00. Picked up a 9 with this unit and 411's today for 100. LOL! You got a Reese deal on yours my friend!!!
I have never seen an early equal lock one with 31 spine. Two pinion was weaker and that went with 28 spline. They have problems if they are used hard they weld the pinion gear to the shaft then the shaft spins in the case breakin the shear pin and is a ***** to get apart. There mite be some 31 but never seen one.
also, take a look at these online: 9inchfactory.com ... kevinstang.com ... www.fordification.com/tech/rearends_ford01.htm ... www.carnut.com/specs/rear.html
Yep, this one was addvertized a 28 spline and is fried. Just trying to get it apart to see if it could be sold as parts for some one who needs it.
