Very true, if it's not removed the extention (alum. ones mainly) broke from repeated hits against it from when the suspention lifted under exceleration. This is why they got banded from many race tracks.

Nothing rubbing that is just a mark on the inside tire from mock up.

Greg Brown "the sign dude" of Roebling, NJ did his own thing with the "hippie" paint job on the hood.
Hot Rod Jen added some fish scales.

The majority of the car still retains original paint.
Second and third photo show the paint job Grannie did by hand on the OLD, weak reapair on the eyebrows.
See last photo - The lower quarters and tops of the fenders were repaired blended in with colored primer by Darren Brown of Roebling, NJ and Matt Brady of Mt. Holly, NJ. All the sheet metal work was not done at once, but in stages.

The car was a very solid orginal survivor to begin with. Everything could easily be put back to stock as I even saved the stock hood. The factory 6 banger and cast iron power glide are in some guys '56 Nomad that will never be finished - LOL! I installed a SBC 400 with mild cam, Holley 4V, a BW T-10 that has Super T-10 guts, Ford 9" four pin traction loc posi with 3:89 gears and 31 spline axles.

Interior is original and in good shape.

All these photos are older with the straight axle installed.

I gotta agree . . . . . . . . I think your Double Nickel looks great! I don't see a problem at all with using stock front suspension instead of a straight axle. Let the nay-sayers try hitting a bump at speed with too much caster in one of those "buggy-spring" '55-'57 Chevies and the following steering wheel death wobble will have you changing your undershorts very quickly! If I ever have another G***er-style '55, it will have the stock front suspension but with one of those vintage ball-joint lift kits instead of a straight axle. By the way, Chevrolet could have saved millions of dollars back then if they just would have left off the stock front bumper on EVERY '55-'56 Chevy ever made! That is such a tuff look!

Added some new front wheels and tires. Not sure if I will keep them on or not.

Looks just right. Love the rear wheel paint scheme. Everytime I see a set of black/white wheels,it makes me want to buy a set of steelies and paint them up for my 55.

Cal Traks in the back would get rid of that problem and make it hook up better. Unless your wanting to keep the drag bar look. I had them on my Maverick, really hooks hard....Ted But i like the g***erlook too......

I like the way it looks with A arms! I have decided to keep independent up front on mine too.
