I wrote this note last week and it was very kind of the person who responded, thanks, what a lesson!! I could not believe the price that e-bay got for the 33 Ford barn find. I dont know the final sale price but it went over $37K and it was a mess. there is another one that is in much better shape that is still open bid, but its north of $40K and i am out. So starting with an original car seems out for me. Does anyone know where i can find a car of this description? 1933 or 34 3 window Ford, all steel with fenders and must have a flathead engine, no chevy or late model crate engines! no fiberglass. juice brakes and a chop are ok. maybe i am describing a 50's or 60's hot rod or a project car. i want to build or finish the build, I dont want a late model big buck blown corvette rear disc brake high dollar car, they are everywhere
You're still going to be into the $30's if the body is anything close to solid/straight. Are you thinking there's a nice 34 3-window out ther somewhere for under $20,000 with your name on it?
hahaha! You want to buy a survivor 34 3w hot rod but don't want to spend more than 20?! Man, unless you are incredibly lucky and stumble onto one somewhere that the owner hasn't watched an auction or had internet access, or spoken to any other human beings who like old fords in a LONG, long time, I'd say you are probably shit outta luck... Not to say that it doesn't happen from time to time, but I sure wouldn't hold my breath!
i think we'd all like one if we could afford one. If you're looking for something that complete and original you're going to pay the big bucks for it. the 34's are the cream of the crop and they are not around. Good luck but i think youre living a bit of a fantasy
your only luck is going to be if you find it one piece at a time over several years and swapmeets. i cant remember the name of the poster or the thread but his body wanted one prolly more so then you do, looked and looked. found pieces from 33 and 34, and different models. when he brought it to the guy he slowly pieced it together for him. good luck man.
where does it say anywhere in my post that i wanted one for 20K?, read my note, i want a car without a chevy engine, pay attention I dont care what it costs i want one with a flathead thats not fiberglass and has a ZZ top $40K paint job, Get it?
Getting a little testy, aren't we? The respondents are just trying to educate you to a reality. Model 40 cars are getting almost as popular as '32 Fords and since they don't make them any more there is a finite (and very small) supply.
does brookville make new bodies of this make and year? im just trying to give you some suggestions. and i have a flat head and tranny from a 34 dodge if you are interested in that
if you are posting here to "look" for a car then you need to go over to the classifieds and post a wanted add. Everyone here is just trying to clue you in on the reality of what you are going to pay for one...in unperfect condition.
I for one "Get it",... But on your first post you were going on, About the price of what the traffic bares for Model 40, 3/W coupes ( what project cars are actually selling for),... Now,... price is no object. Get a hold of Steve's Auto Restoration (All Steel) And see if you can talk Jon out of a new Motor City Flathead,.... and give Brizzio a call,.... Get ready to write a BIG check,.... and enjoy yourself. Get it ?
Steve's will sell you a brand new "Real Steel" 34 3 window coupe body for about $33,000.00 with steel fenders. H&H will build you a hot flathead and send it to your door for about $10,000.00. Corn Huskers will sell you a chassis and put it all together for ya. Total cost? $100,000.00 to $150,000.00 unless you go deluxe on every thing. Paint is at extra cost.
You complained about the $37 and $40K cars, so I thought they were out of your price range. I am so sorry, I didn't realize you are a high roller. I'll go spend a couple hours finding the right car for you, and I promise not to tell anybody else about it.
since you have no idea what real steel costs these days you might as well ask for a barn find all original 32 ford for under 3 grand, with a box of gold in the trunk, and a 19 year old virgin with big tits and daddy issues.... i mean hell your already dreaming anyways so you might as well make it a big dream.

Any 33'-34' 3w bare shell/doors/decklid in reasonable shape for around 10k is a great deal if that's what your looking to spend?
I'd like to add to my previous post.........I see this all the time. People will buy a nice new car or diesel truck which are 50k+ Then when they go out to buy a classic car built by bare hands which carries our nostalgia/Americana/automoive heritage and they shrug at the price that these classic traditional cars are fetching? I just don't get it, in 10-20 yrs. that $30-$50k new vehicle is worth practically nothing yet they'll continue the process over & over???
i wouldn't sell the body i have for less than 35k. it's perfect, so i am sure it's worth that to the right person when a repro steve's is selling for 30k. (i am not bringing any of this up because i actually want to sell it, i don't, just offering some reference.) the best deal on a driving 34 hot rod was the one bubba67 had for sale a while ago. went to a good home, and that thing was awesome. but a rare find.
Brother Wrench: How bad do you want it? If you're willing to give up a lotta spare time and all your spare money, plus buying/selling all the 33-34 parts you can find, you will become the "33-34 guy" to all your buddies....spread the word near and far. Have business cards made up saying you deal in 33-34 parts....well, after you buy a little stash of 33-34 parts you may or may not plan to use on your build... You'll need some shop-room. I have my home garage and I rent 2 secure storage garages for all my 33-34 parts....takes quite a bit of room to store a car in pieces before it's together. I traded an old 53 stude for a 34 ford chassis with a really nice dropped heavy-32 axle and un-cut 34 wishbone. I sold off my 46 chevy pickup daily-driver to get money for the S.A.R. body subrails, quarter panels [they're for a roadster but they can be modified to work on a coupe] and inner and outer panels below the decklid. I paid $1500 for a body that'd been an old roundy-round racer..in the end the only parts I used from it was the top and the tulip panel between the back of the top and the front of the decklid...everything else has been sourced from HAMB classifieds, Craig's list, swap meets and word of mouth... Doors came from Florida...[front doors for a 4 door] paid $900 for the pair and they both needed inner and outer door bottoms...and after the chop they needed door tops..[use 2 door sedan door tops on a 5 window chop].. I have another 345,776 stories about trading/bartering/swapping labor for 34 parts...driving half way across the US for parts but if you're REALLY committed to this, nobody can stop you. Get a secure place to work..people will steal anything 33-34 ford. Buy any and all 33-34 parts to trade with other 33-34 guys.....get started with just one part and tell ALL your buddies about the 34 ford 3 window you're currently building.. If you're serious...get started now...PM me and I'll send you your first part but only if you ABSOLUTELY are dedicated to owning/driving your very own model 40 three window. If married, be prepared to have arguments with the missus occasionally...be prepared to spend hours of free time cleaning, welding, [you need your own welder, grinders etc] and getting dirty. Be prepared to spend hours trading labor to your body man, chassis dude, machinist etc.. I even go so far as to find what kind of projects they're working on and find hard-to-get parts for them..at my expense..Drove to Alabama to help my body man retrieve his latest project chevy II..I paid for gas and meals and helped with the driving..in short...be committed to your three window project or don't even start collecting.
Rocky, that is great advice. Finding a complete 33-34 Ford coupe body these days for anything less than a high dollar figure is almost impossible - you need a lot of luck on your side to do it. So there's nothing wrong with building a coupe body from parts - and Rocky is showing us how it is done!
