Q @ A.....Anyone out there remember... [back in the day]... seeing a custom generator bracket for a Hemi Chrysler that was used with 6 or 8 carb logs running on the street??? Been looking through old magazines and see some Hemi with a Generator hanging on the right side of the engine....used with 6 carb or 8 carb log manifolds, the "LIL COFFIN" for one...."X-T-C", by Dave Pulh another one. Have a need to find out as wierd as it sounds. Later...Barresse'
Had no idea eariler when I read this, but just happened across an ad for a 57 Belvedere. Could these work on a hemi?
Not seen anything beyond the Poly motor shown above. It is really difficult to mount a generator on a Hemi with a 6x2 or 8x2 because of the size of the generator itself. If you don't mind it sitting like the one above or on top of the valve cover (where you will have to remove it to remove the valve covers) then that might be fine. I went to great extents to try and use one with mine and mount it down low so it would be out of site as much as possible, but the engine mounts as well as a 100 other things were in the way. So I elected to use an early Mopar alternator instead and make a custom bracket. They came around in the early 60's on the Imperials, I think. So it's still sort of period correct. You could conceivably mount it down low just inside the engine mount, I suppose, but it would have to be pretty low and your engine would probably have to be up a good bit.
Hey thanks for the photos of the bracket, thats a pretty nice example. I was looking at a roadster at Pomona last yr, Hemi with 6-2's, had the generator mounted to the frame, via a spring loaded bracket to take up slack if engine rocked out. I'am thinking that no brackets were produced by the Mfgs of manifolds back in the late 50's or early 60's. Where's Alan Grove when you need him??? Barresse'
