Oh boy! Put aside the plastic glue and lets build one in steel!:D
Should be fun and we are excited as hell. Me and niceguyede here on the HAMB will do all the fab work and then our paint crew will take it from there. Of course there will be some differences as the owner plans to drive the wheels off of it, mainly in the suspension, but we plan to keep it true to the body and feel as much as we can. The owner prefers red so I think we will go red paint, chrome, and silver leaf. We'll post as we go and we're open to any suggestions and comments.

Crossed rammed small block for sure. Red? Fire truck/ EMV then. The color should be true to the OG. NO 'BAGS.

I agree about the color and maybe we can persuade him to go the way Tom Daniel penned it. No bags.

Red would just kill the vibe...

  6. That was my first model and I'm sure the reason I'm into hotrods. Then I built the Pie Wagon. Very cool, keep us posted.

A red Paddy Wagon might work if he drives around with some ho's in the back.

I guess nobody ever painted their model other than what was on the box? No custom was ever repainted and changed throughout it's life? This is his model. I'm pretty sure that he is not going to gold plate everything, the trailing arms won't be as ornate, there will be more going on with the motor than the model shows, there will probably be posts on the side of the glass, there might be a newer trans, the steering column will be slanted, the shocks will be different, the horrors!

I think it will be sweet to see a C-cab wagon running around town.

I haven't seen any blue cop cars around here either:p
Nothings written in stone and me and Ede would love to see it stay true to form.

Man, the wood on that one is cool! I've always dug a C-cab, but never thought I'd build one!! This is gonna be the shit! I even hunted down a Tijuana Taxi on flee-bay!

That looks pretty tough. You mean its ok not to go blue?

Any suggestions on the gold plating? Is there any alternative, gold plating would be cost prohibitive.

Copper plate. I don't think its much more than chrome but not postitive.

  24. Polished brass plating would work as well.

...And get you closer to the original, while using more $'s elsewhere!

Good point on the brass, brain fart there as I'm sure those light lanterns are brass. Doh!

My two cents...the customer might be right. If you do it blue then it will be a clone of the original which is not a bad thing but there is always some jerk who points out everything which is different. If it is red then you can use the theme and build a one off for the customer.

Tell us a little more about the build because I love these style of builds and wish there were more. Scratch built body, engine, trans.....? I look forward to following.

Customer already started the build at home with a t-bucket chassis kit. He added the rake and began mocking up the drive line and stopped. He has a cowl and subframe; we will build everything from scratch from there on out. In the morning I'll post a pic of how it sits now.
