    Hi there

I bought a new pair of pete and jake spring shackles for my ford 1937 with tube shock mounts.

I bolted the spring in the frame and spreaded it .
I put the front suspension ball in the mount and screwed on the cap loosely.
I tensed up the spring so actually the perch hanger and the spring eye is tuching eachother but the shackle links are still to short
The perch hanger and the spring eye also dont seems to be level.

The center to center measure of the holes in the shackles are 1,57 inches (39 mm)...

    What am i missing here

  2. Pictures!!!

  3. Picture would help for sure. 1.57-8 ish should have good clearance.

Those are the triangle 3 hole shackles correct?

What's the OD of your spring eye and OD of your perch ?

How do the new ones compare to the old ones?
Are you sure you have the right spring for the arrangement ?

The problem isn't the shackles... The problem is you have your frame upside down. :D sorry couldn't resist.

I dont think you have any incorrect parts. I think the procedure you are uisng to spread the spring is the issue. First suggestion is to loose the teflon spacer between the main leaf and the safety lip second leaf. The spacer is spacing the leaf a touch to high and may rub on the perch hanger. The next suggestion is to ***emble the spring to the axle by just installing the main leaf with the shackles on each end and then build the spring stack using a piece or threaded rod as a center bolt. Once the springs are stacked you can tighten them up with two large clamps and replace the main leaf bolt with one of the correct length.

Do you have an original shackle for comparison?

What **** mentioned is the way we have always done it and is the easiest.

  9. **** is leading you in the right direction because that will help with your other problem.
The mis alignment problem - those two items will only be perfectly aligned at one very finite spot in the suspension travel. It may be impossible to get it with the spring pack built up and bolted to the frame.

This is good advice. I have used this method to install springs many times without fail. I also squeeze the pack together with a very large pair of channel locks (rib joint pliers) while tightening the C-clamps. If that wood breaks you could be seriously injured. Also take into consideration that when you turn the frame over and put weight on it, the perch and spring will be pulling away from each other.

    Hi again...

Tryed ****s way of doing this and it was obious that i was using a wrong metod when ***embling the spring pack..
Also removing the liner between lowest spring and safety lip did the job for me...

Sometimes you just get stuck because youre to sure something should be done in a certain way.....

    Thank you all....
