Many moons ago when R&C mag would release a special edition showing cars at the NSRA nats I always lusted after an east coast style chopped and channelled 32 coupe owned by a guy named Frank Sadlowski (sp) that appeared in an issue or two. It was painted gold and really had the east coast look down pat. Even though I grew up in the middle of the country the channelled and chopped 32's from the east appealled to me as being "Hot Rods". The last time I remember seeing any coverage of the car was when it was badly wrecked and after flipping I believe it burned at least partially. Anyone know if Mr. Sadlowski or the coupe is still around. Seems like maybe it was running an Olds for power but my memory maybe faulty on that point.
it may seem like a long time ago (Mar.2004)! but i just found this site! someone from Guthrie,Oklahoma with a 41' woodie (my father had them when i was small)sez he was looking for me... my name is FRANK SADLOWSKI, built, raced, hotrodded, streetrodded . . .60's, 70's .... still around but "that was once upon a time, long long ago." but this is such a great site! it makes you drule.....FRANK
fsadlow, before you get the "Old School Hamber Pile Driver" you might want to post an intro in the intro section...just a friendly suggestion. Good to have you here, nad yes, it is a great site in my opinion too!
Mr. Sadlowski, you are still around!!! This site is great for tracking down cars and people from the past. In addition there are some great "build" threads from some amazingly talented people, myself not included. I wanted to ask you about the $30.00 you owe me.........Lol, not really I was just curious about what had ever happened to you and a car that I greatly admired years ago. I joined this site in June of '04 but just posted my inquiry about you last August so it really didn't take too long for you to turn up. I never met you nor saw your coupe in person. It was just a great representative of the east coast style rods that I admired from afar. No one in this area was building channelled coupes but when I thought of "Hot Rod" that's always what I pictured. From the sound of your post I'm guessing that you are no longer involved with rods but it sounds as if the fire still burns down low. Is my memory correct about your '32 being badly wrecked and burned? Seems like I recall some people pitching in, furnishing some parts for a rebuild but after this time my memory ain't much to write home about. At any rate I'm glad to see that you are still up and around, hope I didn't stir up bad memories from the old days. Hope you enjoy the HAMB board as much as I do. I'm sure someone will jump in asking you to do an introduction about yourself don't be put off by it. I guess I'll always remember your coupe, it's stuck with me a loooong time. Mike H. 41Woodie
Once again, I am amazed at the power of the HAMB!!!! Welcome Mr Sadlowski. I think I'm going to post a "does anyone remember a Jimmy Hoffa" thread, bet he shows up!
Thanks for everyones interest...who would ever figure that the car had a following...out of what i figured was obscurity.... I have pix and will find some to post...i did build a twin to it and somehow over the years you get just a little lost! The original 32' had a 49' olds 324 punch'd jahn's piston's, crower cam, dual offy mani fold with carter afb's...55' old's slant pan hydro(set up by vinnie tarentola,brooklyn,ny- -hydro stick-john mazmanian's friend) it ran great...after the service did it over and it ran jump'in....that car i drove everywhere in rain, comming back from buffalo,ny show hit with snow storm but it drove great back home....to lose that like i did onthe way to detroit made me feel like an ***! The other 32' twin has a 69' olds 455 auto stock 360 hp...everything really just sat covered up with years of family stuff....i know their in the barn/garage somewhere?i move a little slower now, but will get back here.....thank's guys so much, frank
Frank, Sounds like you need to organize an expedition to the garage, it's never too late to be a kid again. Hope that reading some of the posts on here will inspire you to roll the old girl out into the sunshine. Great to hear that you are alive and well, neat to know the rebuild of your coupe still exists. Mike - 41woodie
Vitar, first race torque converter I ever owned, bought it from Don Stanley in Chicago who was @ HyroMotive before he started TSI. Way back machine is workin'.
Beleive it or beleive it don't,my memory is shot with people's names, but I never forgot your name. Was it in Popular Hot Rodding magazine?Anyhow I remember there was a picture of you,(did you have a flattop,) and the rod was well bashed up,you were not happy! It stayed with me all these years what a tragedy that was,and then when I checked your name I had a coupe caught fire, its a lifechanging time,it brings out inner strength!!!Glad to hear your well, pictures would jog some memories.
I am so overwhelmed with this web site and to have your message from england....is just something....wow! I don't want to look at it but it was "rod and custom october 1972 issue". Thank you for remembering....frank
Hey, Frank; I never saw your '32, but I doubt I'll ever forget the pics of the interior I saw in R&C. Left a lasting impression. Took years to see a pic of the rest of the car. Sure would appreciate any pics you have, of either car. Esp the interior... . TIA. Marcus...
Marcus, the second 32' has same interior and their was a spread of that one in a magazine called "rod power" february 1977 which featured the tulsa ,okl. Rod nationals. This has some interior...except for engine & trany they where as close as they could be....frank
Hi Frank, nice to see you are still active in hot rodding. I remember you & your duece mainly because it had a rocket motor, when they weren't being used as much as they had been, I was using one in a '36 sedan I had at the time. I remember something about the tail lights in your duece, did it have sequential blinkers or some thing unusual ? or am i thinking of another car. Cheers Charlie.
Hi charlie, back then i lived 8 blocks from three auto wrecking yards. A friend dropped out of school and got a job at one (he's still their too!)they used to cut engines , rears , etc. Out of car's...it was beautifull piles and piles of olds rocket motor's, etc...gone long time ago to the salvage s**** yards...alway's liked olds motors....yes i had sequental signals like t-birds and they spanded out from middle when you braked, brake like in roof too... J.c.whitney sold that a long time ago in their catalog.....thanks for the interest charlie...wow! Australia, reguards , frank
Frank thanks for the reply, I can't believe I am actually talking to you after 40 years when I first saw your coupe. The power of the HAMB. Thanks again, Charlie.
Thanks for the scan Charlie. Frank, that's a killer coupe. Too bad it was lost like that, but at least you walked away. Love to see that twin if/when you get it dug out. -Chris
Well I finally dragged my rear out to the car mag library and dug up the issue with the feature on Mr. Sadlowski's coupe. There was some interest in seeing the interior. So here it is, sorry for the delay.
