So I'm in the process of building my 54 chevy. It's sports a 3 1/2 chop, my goal is to build an old school custom. Keeping with that theme I really want to run a visor but not sure of the look with the chop. Opinions welcomed.
I have a visor on my chopped '53 Ford and I really like it. Takes the right look to pull it off, but I think it can be done. I like the look of it on your car. If it's going to have a metalflaked roof and a lot of 60's style touches, the visor could look out of place. But if it's a mid 50's period type build, I think it'll look right on.
I really don't like the look of a visor on a chop. With me it detracts from the chop because I focus on the visor. That's just my thoughts.
I'm with squablow on this one, typicaly chops and visors don't go together but in the world of rods and customs there are few rules.
Just me, but I think the chop is really nice and clean, but the visor makes me look at just the visor first. Seems like the best rods and customs don't have anything that jumps out...it all should flow and not steal the eye.
It doesn't look bad with it on. I wouldn't put one my kustom though. I always imagine one ripping right off while on the freeway.
I love visors! I have a 53 chev and would love one on it. its unchopped. im concerned about the center roof mount on those or I would do it. also, i like the look of a visor cause it looks a bit more sinister, not sure why. and it obviously blocks sun and some rain. after seeing a car with a visor and then seeing it without, it looks like its been scalped with a big round bald forehead, lol
Ask yourself this - why chop a car? To make it look sleeker, lower, to make it 'flow' better - right? Then why go and bolt on a doo-dad that sticks out and interupts the flow? I also never understood dummy spots on customs - let's shave off all the trim so it looks smooooth then bolt two big chrome lumps right on top of the fenders. Kewl... Just my 2 cents. Cool car BTW.
I think the visor makes it look mean. If thats the look that your going for then do it, if not then keep it off
Gator is dead-on right, ditchit, and put it on the cl***ifieds. Lotsa folks like em, so it will sell; but definitely not on what youre building. Nice sled
In the early 60's the first thing a guy did if he bought a car with one of those things on it was take the damned thing off an throw it in the s**** pile. They are ok on "Bombs" that have all the regalia for being a Bomb including extra chrome to go along with all of the stock chrome. But on a chopped custom? The concept of building a custom is to make it cleaner and smoother and not add **** like some HOG newbie hitting the bike shops chrome section to "customize" his newly bought "Hog".
You say you want it to be an old school custom. Look at the old magazines and see how many had silly sun visors on them. They just were not used on customs back then other than on bombs. Mick
