I think Jim is reluctant to have the Grabowski 'T' restored because it would be de-authenticised by all the 'perfect' clones.

(will the real Von Grabowski please stand up?)

  3. Hello again,
Four years ago I posted the Golden Sahara II video on YouTube and I recently got word from friends of Jim Street telling me that George Barris was mistakenly credited for this car. I have since re posted the clip with a correction to the iden***y of the car’s creator. I just wanted to let you know where it can be found as I deleted the old listing. I hope this helps.
    Thank you,
    Nick M.

I'm not sure your right.. George and Sam built the car and Jim did all the electronics.. That's the story I heard from George.. I have build photos of the car and Sam working on it.. It's the barris's first coach built car. After the wreck George told Jim what he wanted to do with the car and Jim funded it..so I don't understand how the Barris's didn't build the car? I got the pix to prove it.. I sure didn't see any Photos of Jim building it..

There are many photos of the build showing Bill Carr and Bill DeCarr doing much of the work, so it was a Barris employee project to me. Plus the fact it was totally restyled into a second version with the fins. The first version had Kaiser taillights, in fact, I think the rear quarters came from a Kaiser. Whoever did the electronics, it was unbelievable for the time.

I may be wrong (probably AM wrong) but i recall reading that bob metz did the fins on the 2nd version of the golden sahara. Either way, i love the car in both versions. In my opinion, if it was built at the Barris shop, it is a Barris custom. If the 2 bills actually built the car through under george barris supervision and during working hpurs at the shop that makes it a barris custom. Look at all the Boyd Coddington cars out there...he didnt personally build them all, his shop did. Just my .02

You are probably right because Metz was the guy to go to for fins. His buick, the sahara and the dream truck had almost identical fins.

TO ALL MY FRIENDS HERE AT THE H.A.M.B...

TO FULLY COMPLETE THIS NEWEST History of BOTH Barris' Original "Golden Sahara, AND, Voodoo Larry's "Voodoo Sahara", featured in CKD #84, I have completely reworked & revised this Special Page as a part of the 10th Anniversary of the Hall Of Fame Legends Series:

    upload_2017-9-12_13-21-11.jpeg

WHAT YOU'LL HEAR & SEE IS:
THE GEORGE BARRIS INTERVIEW: CREATING THE "GOLDEN SAHARA" !!

    upload_2017-9-12_13-34-3.jpeg
ONE OF MY FAVORITES of all the Barris kustoms is the beautiful, rocketship-inspired, "Golden Sahara"...created at a time when Detroit "Concept Cars" & "Dream Cars" were at their peak.

In this Sunday Morning Session at the KKOA in Salina in 2009, George gave me the full history of how this radical, fantastic kustom was built...and how it was even used in a Jerry Lewis movie !

ALSO, my Cuz, John D'Agostino, tells about seeing the "Golden Sahara" in it's second version on TV...and I give you YouTube Link on that page where you can see it in action with its owner Jim Street !

Simply CLICK--ON-HERE to listen & learn about the one of the Rod & Custom World's most-legendary creations: "The Golden Sahara"!

PLUS: VOODOO LARRY has spent years building a futuristic, iconic Tribute to the original with his "VOODOO SAHARA"! You can see an Exclusive Feature on this Voodoo rocket-ride of "rolling sculpture", along with a written history & rare photos of the Barris original, in this feature-packed Issue...#84 of Car Kulture DeLuxe (October, 2017) ! Be sure to grab your copy before they're all gone !

My best to you all, and thanks for your help & support for TEN fantastic years !

Thanks for the eMails & PM's. And, Tim thanks for the call...and, yes, that pic of the original "crashed/crushed" Lincoln that was sent to me by old friend **** "Fuzzy" Fuerholzer, shows how close to death that George came that day !

BTW: If you were old enough to see the "Golden Sahara" when it was originally shown...please post any of your personal memories here !

    Wanted to p*** this along...

Got a GREAT eMail from Joji Barris, George's daughter, saying how much she loved hearing her Dad's Interview...and saying that the were going to p*** the Link along to their media friends.

Here's the Direct Link if you not seen the cool info on the page & heard the "Golden Sahara" Interview with George & John D'Agostino yet: http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage109.html

The Barris Family is doing a wonderful job in keeping the legacy & history of George alive and you can access their wonderful Site at http://www.barris.com/

AGAIN, if you've seen the Voodoo Sahara, and want to leave a comment about it please do ! It's a mind-blower !

    Hi-Flying
Appreciate your kind words. It's all of us together that helps keep the R&C industry/hobby moving forward while preserving our past at the same time. And the H.A.M.B. is a valuable part of that.

    Thanks again, H-F,

BTT. Be sure and click on the youtube video on post #33. It shows Jim demonstrating the car and it's features on "I've Got a Secret" in 1960. Unbelievable gadgets for that time. Jim was an electronics genius.

SPECIAL NOTE TO ALL MY FRIENDS HERE AT THE H.A.M.B...
If you're new here, or, haven't heard this yet, I've revised & revamped this Interview Page, that Barris, John D'Agostino, and I did on "The Golden Sahara" & "The Golden Sahara II".

This was done on July 26, 2009, and George was at the "Top Of His Game" ! An incredible memory on the entire concept, build, creation, and, painting of the Original Version, and, how he initially orchestrated the mechanics of it to use in the Jerry Lewis "Cinderfella" Movie.

Here's the Direct Link...and, please p*** it on to one of your friends who might have missed it:http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage109.html
    Best to all...ENJOY !

BTW: I was truly humbled when Me*** used the HOF Legends Site, and George's Interview, as part of their history & information in their on-line catalog on their Site for the "Golden Sahara II" Auction.

Once again it proves "We're all in this together"...and spreading the word about Rods & Customs BOTH in the U.S.A. & WorldWide is what it's all about: for us now, and for future generations. And, no better representative, whose voice lives on 24/7/365, is "The King Of The Kustomizer's"...George Barris: http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage109.html

Thanks again, to all of you who help make this possible ! AND, if you were at the Auction, share your thoughts about it here...

Half of what he said was fiction. Should have talked to the real genius Jim.

Real story on this car comes from Rik Hoving. There was no fish market involved in that paint. First car was refrigerator white. Jim came up with the pearl paint and Rik Hoving has the pics of the receipts and necklace in the true story.
