...it gets cut up!! ...in a good way.

****o's 60 Olds broke down here on the way back from BilletProof (well, the carrier bearing is makin noise but still holdin on.). well, it was parked in front of my garage door and i had no help to push any of my umpteen other projects into the garage so i was left with no choice but to work on it. no i did'nt pull the drive shaft and fix the ailing carrier bearing. i started building the custom taillights ****o and i have been planning for over a year now. they are the standard custom fodder 59 Caddy taillights, but with a twist. this one is not quite done, as there will be an inner piece to smooth out the opening where the Caddy lights are nestled, and i have'nt started the other side except to cut out the mirror image pieces that i used on this side. i told ****o (and all my other buddies) i could'nt work on his stuff unless he was here helpin, cause i just have too much of my own stuff (and Donzie's) to do to be workin on freebies anymore. but ****, like i said. it was in my way. i needed to do something and workin on my daily driver was'nt sounding like much fun.

well, here are the porgress pics i was'nt gonna show ya, but Springer whined so much wanting me to that i figured i'd post em just to get him off my back  . i was gonna wait till it was all done. oh well, i'll save that for round two. which will likey be after ****o comes out here and brings me some roloc discs. his car cleaned me out.

oh Glenn. you always know just the right things to say. :D

as for those fins. they are 6 inches longer now than stock ad ten times as lethal. they are just about at the right height to realy wound a guy for life  . i danm near walked into them a few times already. in fact i welded a 6" piece of brake line tubing on as a guide and walked into it TWICE and broke it off before i got the sheetmetal on there.

the real ***** is that someone had backed that thing into something before. i found alot of lead in that corner. looks like they did a pretty good job of fixing it (way back in the day no doubt) but it's a real pain to try and weld to lead  ...

Regardless, that tail fin treatment looks like it belongs there. Matches both the fin shape & the bumpers. Nice work!

Hey now I helped on the first side already. I did more than just stand there and drool over watching the master in action. I seem to remember cutting and grinding a few peices and making some parts runs while you took a nap. Any way ****o says that he will be out next weekend to help finish it. Some how I new you could not resist finishing at least one side after I left.

    Nice work, Mike!

I remember you guys talking about doing that exact change last year, blends in with the rest of the lines on the car.

I noticed the same thing about the lines matching the bumper when he only had the poster board tapped to it. It's going to look sweet when it's done.

Where do you live so i can break down there?
That is one of the coolest custom ****s to hit a '60 olds that i've seen.
You could use those fins to sacrifice virgins! Matches the bumper perfectly. Maybe you could sharpen the bumper points to take out peoples' legs.

  19. thats a great addition to that car. totally sweet.

oh. and i almost forgot. the cops were out AGAIN tonight. just before 7:30 he showed up cause the ***hole that lives behind me said my radio was too loud. AGAIN! i barely had it turned up at all. not that it should matter, i do live in the country afterall. NO WAY could he have heard it unless he was OUTSIDE and even then he would have barely been able to hear it. what a putz! no matter. ever cop before has said i was'nt doing anything wrong at all. this one was a state cop and was not familiar with the county ordinance so he said he would have to get back with me tommarow (after he reads it over) and let me know if i was in violation or what i would have to do to be in violation anyway. the last three cops knew what the ordinance was and said i was'nt doing anything wrong as far as they were concerned, and the radio was MUCH louder when they were out here than it was tonight.

oh well. if it was'nt that it would be something else with these people. it's always something with them.

enough of that. howabout those fins!! :D i can't wait till this car is in some shiny metal flake color someday. i might have to talk ****o out of it one of these days. i like this car. ;)

    KB-

I HATE 59 Caddy tail lights, and I hafta admit that they look pretty good on ****o's Olds.

Can I offer one suggestion though? (That's a rhetorical question; I'm going to answer it either way.) How 'bout filling in the gap around the lights with some expanded metal? If you picked a simple design with staggered holes, it would give the car a real futuristic circa-1960 rocket ship look.

    Justa thought.

not trying to be an ***hole or anything
but the stock pontiac taillights look much cooler then dual caddy 59, which imho is overused to oblivion..

the fin treatment looks cool though, but why not play with red lucite and do an cooler taillight out of scratch?, caddy 59 taillights are these day hardly original

Ed Burger, not an entirely bad idea. we are thinking of using some mesh in another area of the rear. i may concider your idea but i have a pretty clear picture in my mind of how i want it to look and the mesh does'nt work in that vision. we must use a little restraint to avoid it becoming like so many of the gaudier (is that a word??) customs of the 60s.

Phsycodeamon,. whos trying to be original?? we're trying to be (somewhat) period correct. in 1960 59 Caddy taillights were not yet overused. you do see them alot but that is because they are cool. we hesitated to use them because they are so popular but in the end they fit the vision perfectly and i stand behind my decision. like i always say. "Opinions are like ***HOLES and yours STINKS!!". just my opinion. and FYI. it's an OLDSMOBILE not a Pontiac.

it sounds like i'll have enough cars broke down around here to start my own vintage car salvage yard.. the wife would NOT be pleased with that. :D
