Can some one tell me how the backing plates on earlyy F100 brakes get bolted to the spindle? I am using square back spindles, when I bought the brakes they came with the bolts and nuts to bolt them to the spindles, at least I thought they did. I have eight short bolts with flat square heads. The nuts have a taper on them just like a lugnut would. I thought the bolts should be installed through the back of the spindle, into the backing plate, and then the nut put on from the brake side of the backing plate. The only way these nuts will tighten properly is if I run the tapered end on first. The heads on the bolts I have do have an odd shaped head, there is more of a lip on three sides of the bolt than there is on the remaining side which makes me think I may have them in b*** akwards. Any help from one of you F100 guru's would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Phil
The bolts go from the inside out, the square head will sit against the edge of the pilot on the spindle. The nuts go on the outside with the flat side against the spindle. There was originally a tin grease shield/baffle used on the inside also.
Rich: That makes sense. Were there lock washers, because I do not have any? I ***ume the grease sheilds are optional, but I do have them.
Mine had no lock washer. I'm thinking the nut is a locking type. I'd use the greese retainers if I were you.
