So, i have never really been into a full blown "traditional" build. I have always felt that you should just build a car based on what you felt looked good to you. After being on here I realized that what looks good is period correct builds. Now i have always been into function over form, except for what i want to accomplish with my build (will post when im back in the states and can play with it) i will be running a 226 ford flathead with (hopefully) some edmunds speed equipment. the newest thing on my car is the engine and ****** they are '50. so keeping with that i want to keep it as "traditional" as possible, what brake setup do you all run im not talking about drums etc. (im running 40s) im talking about pedals, master cylinders, and all that jazz i want TRADITIONAL SETUPS im ***uming that it would simply be a single master cylinder but maybe you could shed some light on the subject. what the old lakes guys ran blah blah blah, ps my car is a 30 rpu body, 40 banjo rear, previous mentioned engine and ******, stock frame z'd a little and channeled into the body. i feel im getting close to unrealistic with someone using the 226 on the lakes but maybe not let me know! thanks guys DRSS
They used whatever was available on the dry lakes, engine wise. Noet everyone built a stroker. I am after a little later build than you but you would have been using stock peddles and the master under the floor. You may have used an Ansen peddle setup ( swinging) but I am not susre when they cam about I think they may have been around as early as '50 but I am not sure. Someone with an old Ansen catalog can answer that better. If you were after a later build one of the things that got done in my part of the country in the later '50s or earlier '60s was dual jelly jars hung on the firewall. If they used mechanical clutch linkage they would use a balance bar and run one master for the rear brakes and the other for the fronts. Never the less I am sure that you would have used an under floor single. Maybe later brake and clutch peddles.
i kinda figured if they made speed equip for the engine it was used. and i like the not-everyone-has-one factor. i will stick with my setup for that. and i guess its possible they would use a 50 engine and a 50-56 (random chosen years) build. i was thinking of using a 40 pedal ***y with a single MC, it isnt anywhere close to an easy setup to use but i dont feel its "right" i also finally got my floor shifter for my side shift ******. although i feel it isnt in my years (its newer i think well atleast the shifter is i may fab a new one) maybe im overthinking it well i know i am i just want it to be right.... and right now i got a lot of time to just sit and think.
