I would like to know if anyone has cut down a front leaf spring I want to shorten the main spring by cutting it down and rebending the bolt holes but i,m afraid I will make the ends brittle or I will or take the spring out of it any Help would be great Thanks iceman-29
You need special equipment to rework a spring. I just had a new main leaf made. I carefully drew a full size plan of what I wanted and took it to a spring shop. It took a couple of hours and cost $60. I put in yesterday and it is perfect.
re-rolling the eyes correctly, is close to impossible by most of us. The end of the piece needs to be tapered and then rolled precisely to hold the bushing properly.
I disagree ,Cut off wheel will get you the taper and sockets will give you the diameter. My spring rerolled came out better than my dads fom a spring shop. His words not mine
John; now tell us the rest. did you heat to white or red? Did you re-temper? How about tech article? Thanks, Bill.
