Just thought I'd post a pic of my 49' Ford, as it sits so far, I'd like to hear comments and suggestions. Thanks!
just curious how your gonna carry that body line further up the door. trying to picture the whole length of the car.
Just a pic of a build we found online, liked the chop, so taped the picture up, kinda as a visual reference, he didn't list measurements, but we went 4" in front, and about 5 1/8 in rear, looks just right to me!
I like the took, but the doubled up quarters are way too wide IMHO. A swage line as wide as on the 49 Merc would be just the job I think. Even run it the length of the car. Just my 2c.
Trying to stay pre 1964, and stick with all Ford, or Merc parts for the build. Will be using a modern 302, Ford aod, and a mustang II front , however. Its got to be driven, not no trailer queen!
I agree with James D, they stick out too far. I am also curious how you want to finish off the quarters. I applaud your courage to do something different!
I agree with others that the sides stick out too far. I feel it will also look odd with the taillights staggered and so far apart.
I will try to get some pics from behind the car later this afternoon, the skirts are the look we were going for, wanted a full "bubble" look, kinda like a '53 Merc. Should come together real nice, as time goes on.
I like the stacked staggered taillights! but might need to bring the quarter inward abit so that there isnt such a step out on the quarter and also so the taillights are not quit so staggered. very interesting idea!
Here´s what you got me thinking when I saw this. (not sure whose car this is, but it had a similar chop)
now that is "laying frame" in concrete , rather than just "laying frame" in the grass. looks like quality work. keep us posted with more pics
I look forward to seeing how you are going to run that second body line into the door as well. I think that will make or break how well you pull this off.
Ya, I'm an oil field worker, and car guy, not an English teacher. Sorry fo r the punctuation and spelling errors!
you asked for comments.....honestly, i think its a terrible idea and think you should cut the extra quarter panel off.
You asked. I like the look of the dual tail light spears, gives the side profile, a unique look. Not liking the rear profile. I would think loose the top tail light, bring down the rear quarter at that point-following the top of trunk line, using only your new lower tail lights. Of course, that would render the upper tail light spear not necessary. I like your metal work, and the idea, that you are building something unique. Good luck on your project.
Does not look good to me at all. The added bottom piece is WAY to wide, and the radius is way to soft to look good on this otherwise very nice Custom. To me it looks like something went terribly wrong along the line. Something like this could work, but it needs to be far less wide, and the radius where the added bottom piece meets the rest of the body needs to be much sharper... at least thats what I would do.
Can't say as I like the double fender look. It looks like someone just slapped another set of fenders on the side just because they could. Doesn't flow or ad anything positive to the lines of the total car. But what do I know. Nice metalwork though.
