Oh, I forgot the young at heart... buffalo bill (who also supplied the leather helmit) and careyohio (who is busy fabricating a windscreen for the kidders to sqint thru) and Bugs who didn't want to get out (lots of memories)

An ark is to hold animals , ask Noah. ;) An arc is part of a circle. :)

A grate is for grilling burgers or something you put over your floor drain in the shop. ;) It's great fun for the kids. :)

When you plant a crop you sow it. ;) When you make something with a sewing machine you sew. :D And I think you are referring to an overall strap. :D

The new style of the windshield looks good. The curves look much smoother than the squared off design of the previous mockup.

No one appointed me :D Just having a bit of fun.

It's not spelling as much as using the right word to convey the meaning of what you are trying to say. :)

Carey formed the base out of 1/8" following the plywood windshield template

This view shows the drivers side being set in place... after the top pieces are formed they can be tacked in place... insert shows top passenger template

We ordered rubber for a V'd center... our original plan was to have support thru the middle but it added width to the center post... now it will be supported by both sides with a thinner center support... 1/4" plywood is being cut to shape for a glass template... Visually closer but still a lot of finish work

I'm really happy with the results... I keep struggling with the vintage correctness... we used 27 posts and 1/8" steel and tried to copy vintage design clues... but, would racer's ever had went to such a bother?

Maybe, maybe not. There were some who just cared about function, others realized that you could go fast and look good too.

The best of both worlds brings form and function together. Beautiful lines and that "just right" look that is functional too.

I take it that you have no future plans for a top of any kind.

It looks killer! Could you do a side shot with the current set-up so we can get a better look at the angle of it?

Just like today at El Mirage. You see cars that never seem to get washed. And other people take great pride in a very finished looking car. My friend Norm Kitchen took years to build his roadster. I always thought it was too pretty to be a race car. Then he ran it. Then I thought it was to fast to be a show car. This car looks very much the part of a car that was built by a true craftsman. Either in '49 or 2012. It's a very nice car

    Hello,
I think the most important thing regarding period correctness on racing cars isn't whether anyone actually did have one just like yours, but rather that the design was being used on something that the racers were exposed to, for example, I'm sure I've seen similar pieces on Pre WW2 aircraft, and European cars, so is it possible just such a part was copied in the era? Absolutely.
Would someone have bothered? well you are, so why wouldn't someone else?

    I hope this helps,
    Best regards
    Rick

If you look close you can see the posts are marked for the final cut... they will also get pinched to meet the inside U channel
