I have a 1954 Chevy 210. It's all original. It recently started to overheat on me. I've replaced the thermostat, I've flushed the radiator. I cleaned the radiator out very well, but it is still overheating. I'm somewhat of a novice. Any suggestions??? Thanks!........
my dads 55 had the same problem untill he replaced the radiator my 54 is all original to and it dosen't overheat i think he had a mouse nest in the radiator but if you said yo flushed maybe take it in to have it looked at
Check out your water pump, should have a weep hole, on the bottom side, usually has a small coolant leak, from this hole if the pump is bad. If the coolant is not circulating, due to a bad pump, this will cause them to overheat, also these old radiators, use a low pressure cap, as stated before.
I had the opposite problem, mine wouldn't get hot enough. I put in a new 195 deg. thermo and it runs much better now. The needle on the gauge goes to half way now, whatever that means. Half way hot? You could pull the thermo and see if it cools down, if it does you may have just a bad thermo, if it still gets hot then it could be something else. May want to wash the radiator fins, could have something blocking the air flow like 50+ years of junk. Good Luck
Thanks man. You're right, I did pull and clean out, it was bad. Gonna get new radiator cap and replace water pump. We'll see.
Replaced the water pump, and wa-la!, she's running without being engulfed in smoke. Thanks a lot guys!
