I built this floor shifter for a 3 spd Chrysler selector trans. Just wondering if anybody else has built their own 3 or 4 speed floor shifters for manual transmissions.

That thing is outrageous. Can't wait to hear how it works in service.

I haven't but in the early 60's (I think) I saw a tech article in a magazine on modifying a column shifter that fastened to the top of the column to convert it to a floor shift.

Great work. Never built one myself. I have taken apart Hurst shifters and but them back together. The closest I've come to doing anything from scratch is shifter mounts and shifting arms with offsets and radius end shift rods.

Great job. Back in 1959, I took the easy way out by adapting 1957 Corvette 3 speed linkage to my 50 Olds with a Cad/La Salle tranny. Worked great except your chin hit the steering wheel when you bent down to shift gears.

Yes we use to make them back then from column shifters. They were not many floor shifters available then.

  15. I made one out of steel rods and plates for my brother's '49 Ford convert. The knob was in the shape if a die (one of two dice) made from wood. Seemed rather simple to make and worked for several years, then he sold the car. I was 14 years old at the time!!! Maybe that's why I went to engineering school.......

I helped the metals teacher build one in 1972 in high school. it worked but the pin that catches the 2nd "ear" would wear off even after heat treating it. we had a good design, 2nd design would of been great!

Mines nothing fancy, made from a combination of Mr.Gasket, '66 mustang and junk off the shop floor. Does the job for me.

Well that certainly looks like a very robust assembly. There seems to be some interest inthe old mopar community. Perhaps you might be able to sell a drewing and parts list to those who are interested in reproducing it.

Wow! You want me to build some of these. Rube would be proud. I made hand drawings of all the parts. I'm out of town for a few days. When I get back I'll dig them out and see if I want to build some. Any idea how many guys would be interested. If I decide not to build any of them I'll share the drawing.:)

Today I took the drawings to one of the shops I use so I should have a price figured out in a week or to.

The guys over at P15-D24 got my interest up and I went over and joined their forum. They are very interested in some of these shifters. I am still working out some of the details of some of the parts but I should have some pricing next week.

hey ,I made one that looked quite similar for a chrysler selector shift which I had behind my desoto hemi in my T but they kept wearing out when I would dump the clutch, however it did shift reasonably quick.:D

Thanks for being so patient. I finally got prices to make all of the parts and supply the hardware to make a complete kit. This was not as easy as I thought it would be. I couldn't even get a ballpark number without making good drawings and specifying tolerances and such. The parts would be laser cut, fixture press bent CNC machined and jig welded. These would be top quality units which is the only way I would make them. This does come at a price though. The price for a complete kit would be $625.00 plus shipping. This would include all hardware. I would need to make at least 10 of these to make this worth doing. I know this is a lot for some people but if there is enough interest I will make them. I will also check with the guys over at the P15-D24 to see how much interest is over there.
    Thanks again
