My personal favorite was the late 50's early 60's. Rodding was a blast then and I do miss those days with my buddies. Never a dull moment and it was all about the cars!

Late 50s to mid 60s, thats when I grew up and keep building mild customs and flathead powered cars. That was the era of cruising and drive ins.

Now, because (to paraphrase another HAMBster), “we have had years to perfect our interpretation of the traditional hot rod”. I truly think that the average ‘30s/’40s/‘50s-style hot rod being built today surp***es the quality and proportions of those actually built in those eras. One has only to look at the over-restored survivors that debut at Pebble Beach to realize how far things have come in our standards of quality; and one has only to look at the little pages from the ‘50s to see how our aesthetic standards have changed.

Now from a styling perspective, I like different eras for different cars: ‘20s cars built ‘30s style, ‘30s cars built ‘40s style, etc.

What’s especially neat is that in this day and age (money and space permitting), I can have a period-correct 1932-style Model T sitting in my garage next to a 1948-style Deuce, next to a 1963-style Falcon, etc.

Dont know about anywhere else, but around here, the hey-day of street racing was the eighties. The scene around here was very intense at that time.
