I don't know the exact model...had I known you all would quiz me on it, I would have asked. It was an old one and it was air driven, made a hell of allot of noise...and beat the sh*t out of my shoulder! :p

10 was enough for me.....70?...yikes :D I must say that I like the look, so I might just have to do some more soon

    Dave and Bernice,

Thank you kindly as always! :D

Cool to see the real riveting going on!

  3. Blimey - an air rivet gun?! I used a sledge hammer and a trusting friend holding the rivet set... You planning on putting anything through the bottom flange? Sorry about the sore shoulder - I feel a little responsible...

I must agree! I have always wanted to learn how to rivet and George is a Steam Locomotive enthusiast/restorer...so he has all the right tools. :D

I can't see doing that job with a sledge hammer  ...

Yes, I do plan on some nice welds between the plates and the frame....I'm NOT drilling anymore holes in that frame :p

    *MID-WEEK UPDATE*
"Steering" myself in the right direction....:D

I made a another big step forward last night and got one of my last two major jobs on the front end done......and I think the ***le hints at what I'm talking about ;)

Last week I had attempted to tackle this job, but am sorry to say was not my weekend. I attempted to modify some existing steering knuckle arms, but it was a disaster...bringing about frustration and me eventually storming out to cool down and stew over the solution for a few days.

Last night, I came up with my solution. After Chris helped me with the ground work, angles and measurements.....I just made my own:

Did plenty of cutting, heating, grinding and welding...but I'm happy with what I got in the end

This weekends programing: Panhard bar/Shocks :D

More to come, don't change that channel!

I’ve definitely been there. When my dad was alive, we used to take frequent sojourns into the house for beer or coffee in order to unwind and take a look at some of our problems in perspective.

The solutions you came up with certainly look elegant.

I have been there in the past....but it has been a LONG time since I got that frustrated and bent out of shape over a project, probably why it hit me hard.

I have been making such great progress and moving along at a pace 10 times faster and smoother then the first time around.

...I think it took me a year or more to get it to a rolling ch***is before.

All this since new stuff since November....just 3 months :D

I must agree on the look of the new solutions to the knuckle arm issue. I have a little more clean up work to do, but they do have a nice elegant look to them.

    Clayton,
Don't let it get to you. You are the master of this build. Only you know what the build requires. You will make what ever is required and will be all the prouder for each part (no matter how small - or large). Your "T" will be all the more because of the work you did and the pride you have in this little Black "T" Roadster ! Keep on keepin' ON !

    Dave :)

I don't...usually. Sometimes when it's cold, your hungry and things are not working as you want..it can catch up to you. I used to get like this early on when I didn't really know what I was doing and it frustrated me easily.

As I got better and better, It happened less and less....so when it happens now, it tends to throw me off a bit because it is so rare.

I do have great pride in this T and will continue to maintain my level of quality and excellence.

Clayton, You and I are quite a bit alike. In my case I would get frustrated that I couldn't reach the parts to screw the nut on or to get a cotter key in or out of where it needed to go. In my case it was because of my arthritis limiting my range of motion when I was trying to do something. Now, I kind of cool off and try again until it comes together. Will be getting a big test when I start the build on the Heinz '57 Special. Then you might see some frustration . . . . . I'm not a kiddin' !

    *UPDATE*
"Steering" in the right direction...towards a Panhard bar

This weekend was my time to complete the steering knuckle project from last week, so I spent some time filling and cleaning up some welds:

I also tackled building the Panhard bar using my old stock Model T tie-rod. I decided to put the tuck the panhard up between the front cross member and the front axle...to keep everything clean, tight and compact. I also made the up most of the shock mount pieces because I planed to integrate the right-hand shock mount plate as the axle mounting point for the Panhard bar. Here are the shock mount plates for the back side of the axle:

Next I cut down the old tie-rod and got the lengths I needed measured out:

    The driver's side frame mount:

And the finished Panhard Bar installed ans neatly concealed under the axle:

I didn't quite get the shock and the panhard bar done as I had intended, but I did get the basics done and tacked into place...so I will get them finished up Wednesday night so that I can sign off on the front end as complete.

Next weekend: We start the REAR SUSPENSION :D

    Stay tuned!

Dude! Good to hear from ya! :D ...been meaning to call ya and see how things are going.

I'm rather pleased with how the rivets turned out too....does give it that "been there forever" look for sure.

Might need a hand pulling the rear axle apart next weekend if you want to lend a hand a get greasy.

...your always welcome out to the shop anytime though my friend :D

Oh yes. I'm back in Falcon mode for the moment, but I won't be letting this information slip by unrecorded.

It's time to start a Flivver Folder.

I'm real excited to get going on the rear suspension too. The front suspension build has been allot of fun and I have learned a ton, but I want to move on and get it DONE!

I want to have this thing as a complete, painted, rolling ch***is by the end of next month.

Sooner then that hopefully. The "Special" needs to be painted by end of February, so March we can be wrapping up the Roadster and heading for the tune up runs before Bonneville! Remember both rear ends need surgery! Get a crackin' Dude!!!!!
