A good heavy jack stand makes a great item that you can use with vise grips to hold off ballance items.

Just built a welding table with 1/2 inch steel top 36' X 52"...placed white shelf paper on it and layed out a 5 inch square grid...drilling all these holes and tapping so I can clamp or jig out different projects for welding...

  3. All good ideas. Just be careful when you start hanging vises, etc off the side. Make sure you've got enough counterweight for whatever you might be doing. We tend to forget things like that; and let me tell you, that is a BAD day when she tips over....

    Hey bct,

Like this positioner, especially the hinges. havin' a hard time visualizing, tho, how you'd mount much to that plate at the top. Do you have a variety of plates and/or clamps (like clamps designed for a milling/drilling table) that you use w/ it? if not that, what then? Or maybe you have some shots of it in use...

    Thanks,
    Mike

That would solve a lot of my "where the hell did that go" moments.

I like the receiver hitch idea too, that could be handy for a lot of different things.

I've got an old flywheel off a hay/corn chopper that I salvaged years ago that is about 3ft in diameter and has a bunch of both smooth bore holes and tapped holes in it that has been saved for a welding table on the some day I'll do it plan.

Holy **** -- what does that thing weigh???? or by 'flywheel' do you mean the spoked, flat-belt drive wheel?

havn't had to mess with it too much just different washers. all the stuff i work on is small open car stuff ....when i do my 36 i will have to make some outriggers and such for the bigger panels....it just saves time and the pain in the *** of balancing stuff to get a good weld angle.

    the only pic i have.

my welding table has a bunch of different size holes in it [it was a fixture table from a local factory] a 2" hole, a couple 1/2" holes and a bunch of holes that are threaded. the holes come in handy for driving pins out, bolting things down or bending rod etc.
