It's for a Y block Ford or Merc. "54 and up 292 and 312 are most popular but there were 239 and 272 and I think 256 engines in there. Very cool piece

  9. Looks like a Y block to me as well and the 312 kind of hints at it. I had a 239 once as well as a 272 a 292 and a 312. Raced the 312 they were all good engones but the 312 was my sweetheart.

It's a fairly rare unit these days, especially since it has the belt drive pump with it, but it's in rough shape. I'd offer $150 or so for it as a wall decoration. It will be worth a real good price down the road to the right buyer who just has to have it, but it's gonna need a ton of work and some new parts before it's in useable condition.

If you are truly trying to be fair with her, a minimum of $1500.00. I could see that selling for up to $2500.00 on the auction site!

  12. Don I was kind of leaning in that direction on price myself. I see a lot of old hilborn units go for 1500 and up and many not nearly complete. The Y block piece would be a little hard to come by.

It looks like there is not one part on it that doesn't need rebuilding and replacing. $150 is too little, but $1500 seems high to me. (Of course I bought my SBC Enderles with pump, and stacks for $385 brand new.)

    when? In 1965?

A new Enderle pump by itself is about $500.00 THESE DAYS!

That is a nice find and the units for the Y block are the best looking ........but to be honist yoy can not tell the worth by pictures. is the shafts free, is the B-Valve rotate, are the shaft bores tight ae the plates flat and no doubt the hoses are shot and the pump seal will need replaced...so you can tie-up a lot of money making this thing work.........so to be fair for everyone the range "could" be anywhere form $350 to $1500

i would like to thank all parties for the vast amount of info..now to figure a dollar amount to pay...certainly don't want to overpay...want to be fair...thanks again to all...

  19. Nice piece, and as stated VERY rare. Easily fixable with some new hoses and elbow grease. I think an even grand is fair to all involved...

(FYI, Hilborn part numbers always started with the size of the engine the unit was originally designed for. A BBC unit still starts with 396...)

There should be a serial # stamped on it. Hilborn can tell from the # when it was made and to whom they sold it.

yes ask hilborn for a copy of the sale sheet, they will send you with original sale to whom and for what. I had a 283 unit rebuilt by them with new pump and it cost 2100 dollars with new stacks... it can be quite expensive...good find ...
