Hey all you around Ashland Ky, The Great Race is coming through. A fella my wife works with sent a flyer home with her. The site doesn't list all of the details, but the flyer does (see below).

I've always been curious about this. I've seen some really cool T roadster sportin' flatties in some of the footage I've seen on TV (isn't everything on TV reality).

I ran in the Great Race for two years. Some really cool cars in that race. I'm sure watching it is fun but running in it is GRUELING. 400 miles at a crack for two weeks in a fenderless, *******, doorless Model A speedster, trying to be consistent for times.

If you don't know, the Great Race is a timed event. Basically they have it all figured out down to the second how long it should take you to run the course each day, you get a point for each second your off and the lowest points wins. My personal best was 16 seconds over about 350 miles.

If you're in the area, it's definitely something worth checking out. Just keep in mind that the racers are usually dead on their feet tired so they can be cranky once in a while, but overall they're happy to tell you all about it. Corky Coker has ran it quite a few times as well.

I been hearing that it is coming through my neck of the woods. Is there a set route that they take. Looked on the website and there is not much info on the route as far as roads and such.

I remember when it started in Tacoma a few years back. Very cool cars. We had a bunch of guys down at the shop. One guy gave Art a ride in a vintage open wheel indy style Buick with a killer straight 8 in it. 80 in a 35 going around a corner, drifting from the inside lane into the median turn lane. Cool stuff. There was one guy who had a 1919 Marmon who had just completed the Paris to Peking rally the year previous. How 'bout that for a roadtrip. Also got to meet Currie (the rearend guy). What a character! Very, very cool event.

I recieved a flyer that says that it will be stopping at Davis Park at the corner of Chestnut and Wyman St, (which is Route 2), in downtown Rockford Ill. This is on June 30, from noon til 3 PM. The flyer says that this is supposed to be the lunch stop for the Great Race. There is also going to be a car show there, from 10AM til 3PM. Unfortunately, I have to work that day.

I don't know. The flyer that I recieved, didn't list any kind of route, either into, or out of Rockford.:( It only listed the time and place of the lunch stop.
