I used the Pete and Jakes covered units on mine, fit the F1 mount perfectly.

I went to my local retired mechanic and got his 20 year old Monroe shock book and measured my open and closed then matched that to the book and went to napa and ordered them. Next day picked them up and bolted them in place. Less than $100.for all four.

What are you using for the lower mount? It can make a big difference in the overall length. Just been there....done that.

It's a bung welded to the axle. I used F1 shocks for a 49' Ford but I had to compress them about 3/4 of the way. The rear will need to be shorter than the front. Some of the shocks I looked at had wrong diameter mounting holes.

That sounds perfect for the rear. Thanks for the part number.

Should they be in the middle of their travel when installed?

Monroe 31000 (NAPA RR94008 gas charged), but it kind of depends on the drop of your axle so you might want to take a look at the whole Monroe catalog.
