Is it possible to do a small 3" notch or so without cutting up the trunk floor or wheelwells? I know I need a notch but not into majorly cutting up a solid car. Anyone done a small but effective notch. I am not looking to lay frame, bag, or anything like that. Just want a nice low static lowered car that does not bottom out. I am using a ch***is engineering rear leaf kit and a 72 Nova rear axle.

Are you bottoming out on the axle against the frame? Or pumpkin against trunk?

the rear rails are pretty close to the floor. I'm currently in the process of notching mine but I'm not doing a big C notch like everyone els, I'm going to try and make it flow up but i have to still cut some bits out of the trunk floor.

Hey GREASER815. Go to the 49-54 Chevy cars social group. Then, go to the second page of posts to the one ***led Easy C-Notch. It was posted by briansbodyshop so I guess you could also find it by searching for his posts. Anyway, I like what he did and I think I'll do the same to mine.

I am into both floor and rails. I dont want the typical 12" rasied up trunk floor. Dont mind a little cutting, but want a mostly stock look from in the trunk. Morgan, do you have pictures of yours in progress?

This is my frame , the way I determine it, I will just have 2 somewhat small areas cut out in the trunk plus probably something for the pumpkin.

Never been into this, but I'm almost sure that the arch on the top of the rail is needed for added strenght, 'cause only the raised arch on the bottom would leave you with a very thin frame section...
I'm pretty sure that someone more expert than me will chime in and tell you the truth
good luck with your conservative project!

^^ I doubt a person could do that with the body on. unless you cut a bit of floor out and then put it back in.

if you just want to notch the bottom I'd say no more than an inch, otherwise you will weaken that part of the frame too much.

That is what I was thinking. I really hate to pull my body off. I guess there just is no easy way to do it. I looked on ebay, there are even bolt in kits for trucks and such. Was thinking to find something that simple for this case, but not much luck. Either have to just do it or not be as low as I want to be. Something to think about.
