Went by MoonEyes today to pick up some parts, and saw Dean Moon's roadster in the parking lot. They were dusting it off, and loading it on the Moon hauler as I was leaving. I asked where they were going, and they are setting it up for a Dean Moon/Moon Equipment display at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Musuem, in Pomona. For those that do not know, this Musuem is within the LA County Fairgrounds, and is open during the Grand National Roadster Show, and right next door to the main building of the GNRS. It is a great place to see, if you have not already. From their website below. Iconic Mooneyes Founder Dean Moon and his achievements will be honored with a new exhibit at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum on Friday, Jan 27 and will feature some of the famous Mooneyes race cars as well as artifacts, memorabilia and photography... http://museum.nhra.com/ http://museum.nhra.com/apcm/templates/general.asp?articleid=48643&zoneid=41
Just got an invite in the mail to the Friday night unveiling of the exhibit. Since we'll all be there at the show, it's be a GREAT WAY to end the days festivites!! I love seeing the Moon Hauler. Its a dream-ride for me, one of the coolest around in my opinion...
The guys at MOONEYES are all real cool to anybody that stops in. I was on vacation in L.A. and dropped by and met Deans kid. he gave me a tour, including showing me how the discs are made. The hauler was outside getting a clean up.
Hey guys and gals, Bldg 9 is going to be a celebration of the 80th anniversary of the '32 Ford. The gasser display and the Lions drag strip display will be located in Bldg 3. Bldg 3 is next to the museum and the main hall (Bldg 4.) Look / listen for the cackle cars at the show. They will lead you right to Bldg 3. Hope to see you there!
Hey 64crump, This year, we will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of the 32 Ford in Bldg 9. The building will be packed with 32 Ford roadsters, coupes, and pickups. Here's some more information: http://bit.ly/sEBRiv Bldg 5 will have some of the best kustoms around including debuts from John D'Agostino and Rick Dore. If you are into choppers/motorcycles, about 20 of Denver Mullins choppers will be on display in Bldg 6, along with the contenders for America's Most Beautiful Motorcycle. As always, Bldg 4 will be home for AMBR contenders. In addition, we are also having a small land speed racing display in Bldg 4 which includes the "Spirit of Rett" and "Speed Demon" cars and the "Salt Ghost" motorcycle. I don't have to tell you that Axle is going to do a great job of hosting the Suede Palace. And, as you know, Bldg 3 will host the Lions dragstrip and gasser display. It's gonna be a great show. I hope to see you there!
Thanks Big Bri, Much anticipation for the show this year. 75th anniversary of the 32 was pretty great as well. People are still talking ABOUT the Then and Now Custom exhibit. See you there.
At the time I had "almost" possesion of my Dad's '33. I wanted to cut the front fenders back like Dean's roadster. Thank the Saints that my father had the sense not to listen to me. I do like the Moon roadster but, listen to your father. DW
Here are a couple of shots of the 2012 AMBR contenders. There are more shots on the link, and will post more after the Saturday. http://s585.photobucket.com/albums/ss293/64crump/GNRS2012/
I just have to get there to see this event one year. Beautiful machinery thanks for posting the photos and information on what is being displayed.
I have posted the rest of my Thursday move in pics here. http://s585.photobucket.com/albums/ss293/64crump/GNRS2012/ Hopefully will have some of Saturday's posted later, too many to load on here but everyone still wants to see more.
Ok, I was able to see the Dean Moon Exhibit at the NHRA Wally Parks Motorsports museum in Pomona. Hopefully all of you at the GNRS helped out with the donation to see the exhibit. Here are some shots, and a link. Now get out there and support the museum. http://s585.photobucket.com/albums/ss293/64crump/GNRS2012/DEANMOON-NHRA/
