So, I have this international K-5 that I'd like to start working on. The truck is in great shape so I thought I would try to get it registered first to avoid having to explain some of the changes I plan on making. The problem is I don't have a registration and can't find a year on it anywhere.
As I understand it International didn't change their truck throughout the war so they all look the same. All I know is it's somewhere between 42 and 47 ! Is it possible to narrow it down by the serial no. or something?

There were very few vehicles built between 1942-1946 for the general public, most were used by the military, so it could very well have been a military vehicle. However it should have a serial number stamped on it somewhere. I have a 41 chevy truck and it has no year stamped on the serial no. tag only the serial no.

A place to start may be to contact your DMV in N.Y. and find out their requirements. Also the state inspection stations may be able to help with serial no. locations.

thanks paul, I will check out that site.

you're correct Silver top, the truck was a US Navy Truck. The serial no. is clear, just no year! I was thinking the year could be figured out by some code in the no. or something.

If you have a long time IH truck dealership in your area they may be able to tell you by the serial number.

When I worked in a Ryder truck shop years ago and worked on a lot of Internationals the serial number meant a lot more than year and model. There might be an International truck registry with a listing of serial numbers to year model too.

You might check with these guys http://www.barnesih.com/ They might be a parts source too.

Holy ****! I just spent an hour on the ihc website and it seems I have about as much chance of accurately figuring out the year of my truck as winning the lottery!
It seems international dated their vehicles when they sold them not when they built them! Then the records that they had of that they lost!

I ran into a bunch of that mess when I was rebuilding scouts, the same thing, dated the yr they were sold not when they were actually built.

IHC identified their trucks by model, not year, until about 1950. The K series was pre-war, then the KB came out in mid-45, I think. Not really sure about that, as IH themselves can't seem to figure it out!
Then, as others say, some were held over and sold as new trucks later on.

Thanks Guys, From the WI Historical Society list that Havi steered me to, it appears that my truck was built in 1942. I have no idea what year it was registered, but at least I have some ammo to take to the DMV!
