^^^Someone paid attention at church this morning!(ADVANCE1)
It doesnt matter if you lie or not about the price, the state still gets their cut...but now they are telling us how much we should have paid and they get the benefit!
Its beating a dead horse really...
I remember a story from when I was a kid about a bunch of white guys dressing up like indians and throwing a bunch of tea into Boston Harbor...dont have any idea how that relates to this though:rolleyes:

the minnesota street rod ***ociation (MSRA) has lobbied our state government to keep things fair to the old car hobby. other states should follow what MSRA does. the fact is old car people vote to.

i must be missing something then... how is a car that sold for around 2k valued at 37k? it must be a value that someone appointed somewhere along the line..

Same here. I swapped my coupe straight across for my roadster. It didn't matter to the registry.
Because i didn't buy it from a "certified m***. car dealer" I paid full tax on $26K and I filed for a rebate but they shot me down.
The key is to buy a car / truck that has a low Blue Book value.

Politicians make the rules - they don't live by them.

    "
Sen. John Kerry, (M***.)who has repeatedly voted to raise taxes while in Congress, dodged a whopping six-figure state tax bill on his new multimillion-dollar yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I."

For some time now I have been thinking about how easy it would be for some enterprising state politician to realize that there are a lot of cl***ic collector cars in our state and that many of them are worth much more than new cars and that the state is not getting a fair tax on that property and how easy it would be to go after them because most have Collector Car plates. I'm hoping none of them are reading this thread.

M*** is a nightmare for ***les too. The only way to deal with M***. is not to. I know a lot of cases of guys going to Vermont New Hampshire and Florida to register old stuff. Most of us living in this ****hole know people or are related to people in these other states.
For example if your parents are retired in Florida, have them buy the car and give it to you in a year or so. Works with other states too.
What gets me too is say you have a 55 Chevy sitting in your yard that looks rough. The town or nieghbors will yell and scream to get that piece of **** out of there. Crush it and make a Prius out of it. Sell it and the guy who buys it will be told by the state it's worth 25 grand. Fix it up and bring it to a cruise night and everyone will say how wonderful those old cars are.
    I think too much!!

As posted above, the NADA book has built-in ***umptions, for instance it ***umes a running, street legal car needing cosmetic and minor mechanical work. I'd call such a car a "driver".

NADA books are of no use in the world of "fix-er-uppers", "project cars" and "parts cars".

Oh, and NADA stands for National Automotive Dealers ***ociation and the prices in the book actually come from reported sales from dealers, so nobody "appoints" the prices.

Vicious circle, isn't it? The reason they use NADA is because so many people report the sale of their used car for $100.00 regardless of the actual price.

What am I missing ? How the NADA value of a 57 chevy be $27,000 ?

I have heard that going to the main registry in Boston, armed with a notarized bill of sale that describes some of the things "wrong" with the car would get tax revised to the correct number. That may be a legend.

Our long term insurance agent has more than once been able to grease the registration process when a few eyes lacked dots.

In Washington State, (very similar to Oregon) the State has been very gracious to us in that we can...

1: Get an estimate from your local bodyshop on all of the things wrong with it to dispute the actual amount paid vs the States dictated amount
    or
2: Go with their State chart of values and pay the tax. (They do have a "Parts Car" value chart)

If you know the people in the licensing office they seem to be somewhat fair and if you dont or the people are new...Holy ****!

I have personally educated a few licensing office employee's on how the system works and what they should charge.
    Yes, its so much fun...

Our most illustrious Govenor Egor has now figured that we should pay our $80 collector car license fee and pay a yearly fee ($30 suggested so far) similar to the vanity plate holders.

I am not extremely opposed to this, although this is where the increased taxation begins and seems to never end.

I have to thank her for not running for office again, although she is looking to screw her cons***uents on a federal level now.

For my next car, I'll be getting into an old vette or 5-6-7 Ragtop, and am Not going to be Victimized by this Tax BS again. This Option Might work if the Cops Don't Bust Your Balls about the Plate....

Vicious circle yes, We are taxed way to much (its criminal), on things that we own outright, Taxed yearly for the same things (cars-houses-properties, etc.) why do we put up with it ? Home of the free and land of the brave you bet, but we are still under there thumb (big brother) Goverment over spends and we take the hit for it, Great countrys get around 200 years and then it seems down hill from thier.
