I have a 1990 Chevrolet tilt steering column in my Merc Project. I recently ran across a really decent 1964 Chevrolet Steering wheel that I would like to adapt to the '90 column. Does anyone know if there are any adapters available for this set-up??? John
I'd check with YEARONE.COM....they have parts for all the GM columns and alot of ways to adapt early stuff...after 69 most all GM is 'standard'
Thanks, Choppertudor, but if it would have fit, I wouldn't have posted the question. The diameter of the hub on the 64 steering wheel is smaller then the 90 column, and the horn wire set-up does not match-up.
Opps!!!!! Sorry Choppedtudor, Thanks for the "Year-One" suggestion. I replied to the wrong post above when I was was talking about putting the steering wheel on if it had fit. The reply was meant for "maniac
A good parts store offers several different adapters for different applications tell them what you are doing and they should be able to help.
Modify the cancelling cam to fit in the old wheel, and live with the size mismatch of the column and wheel, or make a shroud to fill in the gap.
Ha ha ha. You said "good parts store". Those are extinct if you are talking about the local brick and mortar stores.
I've never seen an adapter to put a stock wheel on a different type of stock column. I've seen lots of adapters to put aftermarket wheels on different stock columns. and we have a couple "real" auto parts stores in town....although they're not the type of place that would stock a steering wheel adapter. Hot rod shops do, the nearest one is Don's in Tucson
It's not what you asked, but I would ditch that column as fast as possible. Install something, anything else more appropriate looking for that poor car!
